The Bronx & Mariachi El Bronx Celebrate Record
Store Day With Split 12”
Mariachi El Bronx – the alter ego of acclaimed
punk outfit The Bronx – will kick off a headlining tour on May 17 at the Fox Theatre in Boulder, CO.
The run, which will feature special guests Two Gallants, will include two free Sailor
Jerry Presents shows (5/20 in Chicago and 5/22 in Philadelphia) plus a Rocks Off cruise in
New York City (5/23). Prior to the tour’s launch, the band will play a pair of West
Coast shows with Los Lobos and X, including a hometown concert at Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre
on May 5. Mariachi El Bronx will also support Dave Matthews Band, Gogol Bordello and
tUnE-yArDs this spring and perform at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival. See below
for itinerary.
“The ferocious Mariachi El Bronx took the stage in their
signature charro suits …[and] brought together some of the best parts of Los Angeles,”
said the LA Weekly in a recent live review. “Against swooping violins, heart pounding
guitars and a bombastic horn section, lead singer Matt Caughthran held his own. Shaking with
passion, he wrapped his fingers around the microphone and poured out his amorous woes.”
Noted the Los Angeles Times: “The Bronx's acoustic alter ego fuses its punky themes of
struggle and misanthropy with traditional Mexican mariachi music. The result is
startlingly natural.”
"Revolution Girls," Mariachi El
Bronx’s latest single, has been remixed by rising Latin electronica artists Los Macuanos, Super Guachin (ZZK) and
Algodón Egipcio and will be out in April. You can check out the band performing “Revolution Girls” on
“Late Show with David Letterman."
In a Record Store Day exclusive, The Bronx and Mariachi
El Bronx will release a split 12” on April 21. The special splatter-colored vinyl features
both bands in their element – rocking their ferocious live show for rabid fans at intimate
clubs from Brooklyn to Stockholm. The six-song collection includes a cover of Hanoi Rocks’
classic “Boulevard Of Broken Dreams” that features a guest appearance by the legendary
Michael Monroe of Hanoi Rocks.
Since forming in 2002, The Bronx has
redefined what punk means, releasing three self- titled full-length albums and a deluge of 7 inches and EPs. Mariachi
El Bronx was conceived in 2006, in response to a request for The Bronx to
do an acoustic performance on television. Mariachi El Bronx followed
in 2009 and Mariachi El Bronx (II) debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Alternative New
Artist chart in 2011. The Bronx will also be touring shortly – beginning with a pair of shows with The Hives next
month, followed by a Rocks Off Cruise of their own (5/24) and numerous European dates.
The band’s new album, The Bronx (IV), will be released this summer.
Mariachi El Bronx/The Bronx are: Matt
Caughthran, Joby J. Ford, Jorma Vik, Brad Magers, Ken Mochikoshi Horne, Vincent Hidalgo and Ray
Suen.
