Chicago’s own volcano! have cut to the delicious, poultry-filled center of it all with a new video for the titular first single off their upcoming record, Piñata. In the video, directed by Brian Cagle (and premiered today on SPIN.com), we see the band blindly stumbling through the woods and serendipitously converging in an open field with a beastly piñata hanging from a lone maple tree. The ensuing death ritual is more surgical than your typical piñata execution, and the interior prizes include more than candy. A strange tale of revenge fantasy and summer picnicking, this lead track off Piñata represents volcano!’s first release since 2008’s Paperwork, and their finest affair to date. It’s out June 12th on The Leaf Label.
In addition to the video for “Piñata,” volcano! will be
premiering a new weekly series on their Youtube channel called “Seed to
Flower Thursdays, with volcano!.” These programs will track the genesis of
most of the songs off the forthcoming record, the seeds that birthed each
flower, if you will. Be prepared for some surprising revelations. Tune
intohttp://www.youtube.com/user/volcanoband to hear each new volcano! trackbefore
the record’s June release, and to witness their sometimes gruesome sometimes
mundane origin stories.
