Yuksek “Off The Wall” Single & DJ Harvey Remix Out Now!

Lyrically, he often expresses those feelings of solitude, though, musically, the results may be best enjoyed in a room wall-to-wall with sweaty skin.”
-- USA Today “PopCandy”

Combining infectious dance-floor beats with catchy pop hooks, the French electro-pop composer creates a sound teeming with energy. HOT WATER MUSIC Ready to Release EXISTER on Rise Records on 5/15 First Album in Eight Years

"For us, calling the album 'EXISTER', I think it's a bit of a 'we're still here, and we're not going away anytime soon' type of statement," says HOT WATER MUSIC bassist Jason Black, about the name of their forthcoming album due out on Rise Records on May 15, 2012. From the sound of the new music, they're not just 'here'... they've arrived. Recorded this past January at the Blasting Room in Fort Collins, CO with The Decendents' Bill Stevenson (Bouncing Souls, Rise Against, NOFX) in the producer's chair, Exister isn't the sound of a band greasing their wheels but a band revved up and raring to go."Recording the album was amazing... better than any of us expected, for sure," Jason continues. "It seems like the time off, coupled with everything we've all learned doing other projects and honing our respective crafts during that time, really worked in our favor and enabled to have a basically unending flow of ideas and creative sparks."

Their first album since The New What Next in 2004, Exister finds the band perhaps a wee bit worldlier but no less fiery. Launching with Chris Wollard's guitar attack and Chuck Ragan's trademark gravelly vocals, opening track "Mainline" proves that they haven't lost their bite. With Chris taking over vocal duties in "Boy, You're Gonna Hurt Someone", the propulsive rhythm section of Jason on bass and George Rebelo on drums takes their signature post-punk soar and punctuates it with intricate fretwork far more dexterous than bands ten years their junior. From the soaring "Drag My Body" to the garage-y "Wrong Way" to the anthemic "The Traps"Exister is the sound of a band whose chemistry is undeniable and in perfect sync with each other. While some bands may be urged to always reply that their current album is their favorite, with Hot Water Music, it seems this is actually the case. When asked which of the tracks are the most special to him, Jason replied, "All of them. Literally. We recorded 13 and all 13 made the record, which is the first time that's ever happened."

Hot Water Music first formed in 1993 in Gainesville, FL and quickly rose to the top of the post-hardcore punk scene. After releasing seven studio albums, two compilations, one live album and countless numbers of 7"s, EPs and splits, the band took an indefinite hiatus in 2005 but reunited in 2008 and have been playing numerous festivals, quick tour runs, and one-off shows ever since.

"I feel like we accomplished more than we'd ever dreamed years ago. So from those points on, it all feels like a blessing," adds Chuck. "Granted, it is hard work and we do make sacrifices to do what we love, but at the end of the day, if we can hang onto the bond and the reasons that HWM began in the first place and what drove us all those years, then we've done our job. If we can continue playing our hearts out, smiling while doing it and continue to grow as friends and as musicians close to 20 years later, then we've succeeded beyond all of my hopes and expectations."

Celebrating the release of the record this May, the band is planning a full-scale US tour with dates to be announced in the coming weeks. With announced performances planned for The Bamboozle on May 19th and 20th in Asbury Park, NJ and a headlining record release show at NYC's Gramercy Theater on May 21st that sold out in one day, Hot Water Music not only live up to the Exister album namesake, but they're here to stay.

Hot Water Music is Chuck Ragan (vocals, guitar), Chris Wollard (vocals, guitar), Jason Black (bass), and George Rebelo(drums). Exister was produced by Bill Stevenson and will be released on May 15, 2012 on Rise Records.

FEAR FACTORY Album Release Date Confirmed Additional Performances Added To May Tour

Candlelight Records today confirms June 5 as the North American release date for FEAR FACTORY's new album, The Industrialist. Produced by the band with Rhys Fulber (Front Line Assembly), the album was mixed by Greg Reely (Paradise Lost/Skinny Puppy/Machine Head). It features additional tracking by Logan Mader (Gojira/Divine Heresy/Five Finger Death Punch) and artwork by Anthony Clarkson (Devin Townsend).

The Industrialist is a conceptual album that brings to life a story scripted by vocalist Burton C. Bell. The album's lyrics detail the plot of the original narrative while delivering FEAR FACTORY's massive signature sound. Bell reveals, "the album is a futuristic tale of an automaton, striving to survive by fighting for its existence within a desperate world. The lyrics tell the story while the music takes our industrial roots and blends them more perfectly than ever with our metal edge. And all without losing the sound that makes FEAR FACTORY a machine of sonic devastation. FEAR FACTORY fans of any era will not be disappointed."

Clocking in at just under one hour, the album's ten songs again unite Bell with guitarist Dino Cazares. It is the second album written by the duo, reuniting in 2009 after a seven year split. Cazares says, "collaborating with Burton again on the new album was like magic. Everything just fell into place naturally. It felt good to recapture the true sound of FEAR FACTORY, taking it back to where it all started while raising it to new levels."

The Industrialist again pairs FEAR FACTORY with long-time friend Rhys Fulber. Their collaborations together include five albums and two remixes, including the certified gold album Obsolete. "Rhys has been our secret member," shares Cazares. "He is the one producer who has been able to understand what we have been trying to accomplish from the beginning and has opened our eyes to new things without sacrificing our original sound. His talents in production and keyboard/samples has made FEAR FACTORY stand out amongst the many bands of our genre."

The Industrialist follows the 2010 release of Mechanize. Widely regarded, the album was the first release from the band in six years and the first new material from the nucleus of Bell and Cazares since 2002. The album debuted on Billboard's Top 100 album chart week of release and continues to sell in early 2012. Sirus XM/Headbangers Ball's host Jose Mangin comments, “after Mechanize dominated 2010 as Liquid Metal’s Album Of The Year, North America is chompin’ at the bit to get an ear full of new FEAR FACTORY. I have no doubt that FEAR FACTORY are going to kick our collective asses in 2012."

Revolver editor Brandon Geist adds, "in the '90s, FEAR FACTORY's founding duo of Burton C. Bell and Dino Cazares changed the sound of metal, from the way that metal vocalists sing to the way that metal and electronic music can be fused together. With 2010's reunion album, Mechanize, their partnership proved to be as lethal as ever. Though 2012 promises plenty of massive heavy-music releases, there isn't a record that I'm looking forward to more than The Industrialist."

FEAR FACTORY recently announced their first tour dates since 2011. Joining them for the tour that is set to kick off on May 1 is Boston's Shadows Fall, Kansas City-based The Browning, Riverside, California’s The Devastated, and Legacy Of Disorder from New Zealand. PILGRIM will be leveling the East Coast this March with their soul-searing bottom-end before making their way to Europe in May. Confirmed dates thus far are available below.

PILGRIM Misery On The Road 2012
03/01/2012 Public Assembly – Brooklyn, NY
03/02/2012 JR’s Bar – Philadelphia, PA
03/03/2012 St. Stephen’s Church – Washington DC
03/04/2012 Strange Matter – Richmond, VA
03/12/2012 1624 N. Harrison St. House – Ft. Wayne, IN w/ Old Soul, Gathians, Somnambulist Red
03/14/2012 ND Studios – Austin TX (Pitchfork's Show No Mercy SXSW showcase)
05/02/2012 Betong – Oslo, Norway
05/04/2012 Heavy Days in Doom Town Festival – Copenhagen, Denmark

PILGRIM are the latest addition to the Metal Blade roster via Primordial frontman Alan Nemtheanga’s imprint, Poison Tongue Records. The doom trio consists of: Krolg Splinterfist, Slayer of Men on drums, Count Elric the Soothsayer on bass guitar and The Wizard on guitar and vocals. With a mix of destruction, misery and beauty, these young disciples of doom blend a surprisingly original sword ‘n’ sorcery feel with the classic chest-caving heaviness of the masters, Black Sabbath, Saint Vitus, Reverend Bizarre and Pentagram.

“…an absolutely brilliant album consisting of six epic, fantastical tracks of crushing, deceptively hypnotic and magical doom where no singular highlights exist – each track can stand alone – because the entire effort is a highlight.” – Terrorizer

“...in a realm where the old-school and the experimental push against one another in an eternally dynamic non-equilibrium, it's certainly not about who your influences are. It's, of course, about how you use them. PILGRIM simply have fun with these predecessors, renewing old sounds with the zeal of teenage boys worshipping cheap Sabbath posters on their bedroom walls and the skills of players who've been at this for a while...” – Pitchfork

“...an impressive offering from a young band.” – Powerline

“This is true doom metal, not the hybrid bile that so many bands are passing off as doom these days. The monster riffs will bludgeon you senseless and shake you to the core, but you’ll keep coming back from more, willingly and repeatedly.” – Pure Grain Audio

“…slow, ponderous, crushing doom, owing much to vintage Black Sabbath, Saint Vitus, Pentagram, and the like. Ominous riffs, pounding rhythms, and haunting vocals make up the formula here, and tracks such as ‘Quest,’ ‘Astaroth,’ and ‘Masters of the Sky’ mix up the slow motion death marches with speedier dirges for a wild ride.” – Sea Of Tranqility

Led Er Est Performs “Bladiator” in Room 205

In their final installment of Room 205, Led Er Est delivers the bombastic blast of "Bladiator." To accompany the bass-heavy blast of the track (from the forthcoming LP,The Diver, on Sacred Bones), editor Forrest Borie worked with the video montage of Brooklyn-based visual artist Aurora Hilal. It's a fitting end to an episode of exceptionally deep weirdness.

Special thanks goes to Shawn, Owen and Sam of Led Er Est for making this episode of Room 205 possible. Without their fierce fingers and dexterous minds we couldn't have made it happen. Thanks also to director Jared Eberhardt, video artists Brendan Harman and Aurora Hilal, set designer Tamarra Younis & assistant Michelle Pullman, audio engineer Jon Gilbert, DP/Camera Operator Aaron Farley, and editor Forrest Borie.

About Led Er Est
Led Er Est was formed in early 2007 by Samuel Kklovenhoof and Shawn O'Sullivan. Drawing from the dire, aggressive textures of first-wave industrial music, the craftsmanship and ambiance of cold wave and post-punk, and the primal kineticism of old school house and techno, the project was initially an outlet for song fragments and delirious baubles. As their sound took a more structured turn towards the end of 2007, Owen Stokes was enlisted to bring an additional synth to the minimal electronic arsenal. Reclusive as the snow leopard, their Room 205 episode was filmed while the Brooklyn 3-piece was on its first tour down the west coast.

Hubble Premieres "Nude Ghost" Remix + Dates to SXSW * Ben Greenberg Added as Newest Member of The Men!

Debut Album "Hubble Drums" Out Now on Northern Spy Records!

Stream / Download "Nude Ghost" (Midnight Magic Remix) here!

"Hubble makes music about small phrases and layered rhythms and tiny melodic variations: adding or bending some notes in a chain. (You can hear it on a strong new album, “Hubble Drums,” released last month by Northern Spy.) Mr. Greenberg sounds as though he’s starting from the usual 20th-century source material, Terry Riley in particular, and seeing where his own skill and nervous system can take it." - The NY Times

"...Greenberg meditates on the euphoric cosmos by cycling through patterns that orbit the ears. Earlier this year, I could see that intense meditation in his face as he heaved his body back and forth in the converted living room above a Washington, D.C. warehouse. It was as if Greenberg was summoning a galaxy right then and there in a zen state of shred." - NPR

"Greenberg's recent collaboration with Tiffany Borders from the Space Telescope Science Institute and video artist Sheena Callage, which sets "Hubble's Hubble" to imaging of actual Hubble telescope data, gives a good visual metaphor for our listening experience, both here and elsewhere on this beautifully troubling debut: an endless back-and-forth between details and expanses, wide angles and extreme close-ups, anxiety and awe." - Pitchfork

Following the recent appearance at Brooklyn's XPRMNTL FSTVL, and in celebration of the recently released debut full-length "Hubble Drums" out now on Northern Spy Records, New York-based solo guitar project Hubble (featuring Ben Greenberg of Zs and Pygmy Shrews), has premiered a remix of their new song "Nude Ghost" at the Northern Spy Records website.

Featuring the spellbinding touch of Morgan Wiley (Midnight Magic / Jessica 6 / ex-Hercules and Love Affair), this esoteric wall of sound is transformed into one of the year's wildest bangers. Complete with dance-floor ready beats, simulated hand claps and vocal blips and bleeps added to Greenberg's signature guitar noodling, the track recalls a time when New York's underground rave and electroclash scenes were at the forefront of Gotham City's ecstasy-infused nightlife.

Hubble is also announcing dates down to this year's SXSW marathon in Austin, Texas, where Greenberg will be performing as both the opening act to headliners The Men on select shows, and will also be performing as the band's newest member as he takes over bass-playing duties for the months ahead - full Hubble itinerary below.

"Hubble Drums" Track List:
1. Nude Ghost
2. Glass Napkin
3. Hubble’s Hubble

About "Hubble Drums"

Planned since Hubble's first live performance in September of 2010, Hubble Drums is an inspired record of new guitar music. Equal parts shred-fi, cyber-dread and fried psychedelia, Hubble Drums marks Ben Greenberg's first full-length recording and debut for Northern Spy. Recorded at Python Patrol and lovingly mastered at Bonati Mastering, the CD and 150g LP features original artwork by Michael Yaniro and Ben Greenberg.

“Hubble's Hubble” serves as the soundtrack for a video of NASA sanctioned cosmic imagery captured by the actual Hubble Telescope. Possibly the most minimal track, Ben produces sheets of sound that circle through 3 channels, panning left to center to right, creating an aural environment that reflects the space and movement of deep space. “Nude Ghost” is based off the first tapping riff that Ben wrote when creating music for solo guitar. The glacially emerging beat mixed into the track came from two days of hazed studio jamming with Joe Williams (White Williams), Jon Leland (Janka Nabay, Skeletons) and Matt Papich (Ecstatic Sunshine). "Glass Napkin" highlights Ben's mastery of both guitar tone and hypnotic rhythmic patters, as well as his energetic patience in the face of a void of his own devising.

Since the inception of his new solo guitar project, Ben Greenberg (also of Zs and Pygmy Shrews) has sought to exploit the guitar for its ulterior qualities, simultaneously displaying a true love for the instrument while redefining how guitar music is understood. Whether distortion-drenched or achingly clean, Ben describes painstaking result as “cyber-dread”, an apocalyptic, beat-less quasi-electronic music, conjuring Terry Riley’s pulsing minimalist structures and Gregg Ginn’s aggressive, avant-garde rock.

About the Hubble live performance, Ben expounds, "Every Hubble set, on a stage or in a friend's basement or in my bedroom, is a concerted effort on my part to change the air in the room, to push it towards a state of greater resonance.” Using mesmerizing guitar mastery to create extended rhythmic patters of note groupings of varied tempo, dissonance, and harmony, Ben hypnotizes the audience with slowly developing, subtle variation, until the listener is lulled into a highly vivid dream state. The set varies between a versatile and simple set-up and the more ambitious Hubble Superposition, a quadraphonic experience that splits the guitar signal into four different signals which are routed through four separate amplifiers.

Ben’s first release "Hubble Linger" (NNA Tapes) brilliantly utilized the cassette format by distilling a live performance into two side-long pieces of stereo-panning guitar. The tape was well received inciting electronic musician Keith Fullerton Whitman to claim “...I’m fairly floored by this extended solo-trance-out from Zs guitarist Ben Greenberg, who seems to have invented a device that halts time (musical, actual, and meta-physical) ; its use is put to great effect across this 60-minute blast of cycling “stereo” chord progressions and assorted haze(s) that approaches the fervour of MBV / Belong’s filtered-out high-gain wash while retaining the minimalist patina of Charlemagne Palestine piece ... awesome.”

"At once heady and visceral, psychedelic and intensely lucid, Hubble's mesmeric guitar webs are laser-etched incantations to the sublime. At the luminous crossroads of John Lee Hooker and Philip Glass, this is virtuosic and visionary sound-sculpture that kicks the concept of what is music just a little further down the road. There is something new under the sun. Just listen." - Michael Azerrad

“Hubble's euphoric wheedlechurn is where the measured precision of downtown minimalism meets the unhinged aggression of Brooklyn loft noise--truly hypnotic and truly New York.” - Christopher R. Weingarten

"Working under the pseudonym Hubble, Brooklyn-based composer Ben Greenberg writes hypnotic instrumentals that are part avant-garde classical music, part heavy metal." - The Washington Post

"He
’s made a rock-solid practice of crafting amorphous music out of spidery figures maneuvered by hummingbird-like fingers. But Hubble is his most focused, lean work, and it’s the first that fully belongs in its own orbit." - The Boston Globe

"Greenberg's technique blurred into life, the tapping phrases taking on their own definitions, the exact musical inverse of what happens when one repeats a word ad infinitum into meaninglessness." - The Village Voice

“I’m fairly floored by this extended solo-trance-out from Zs guitarist Ben Greenberg, who seems to have invented a device that halts time (musical, actual, and meta-physical) ; its use is put to great effect across this 60-minute blast of cycling “stereo” chord progressions and assorted haze(s) that approaches the fervour of MBV / Belong’s filtered-out high-gain wash while retaining the minimalist patina of Charlemagne Palestine piece ... awesome.” - Keith Fullerton Whitman

“[Ben] has been channeling his formidable guitar chops into distortion-drenched, loop-based compositions that lovers of distressed ambience will be more than happy to zone out to.
Emile Friedlander, Altered Zones

"His new instrumental solo project, Hubble, finds Greenberg maniacally noodling through celestial, finger-tapped riffs with little more than a guitar and a basic loop station. It
’s a touch more accessible than his past work, and allows his well-honed virtuosity to shine through." - The New Yorker

"When you watch [Hubble] perform...one of the most striking things is realizing how excited you are to watch someone play guitar that can really fucking play. And makes rad, new music!!!" -Terroreyes.tv

BRYAN SCARY Announces New Album, Daffy's Elixir, April 24th + NYC shows!

“...as someone who has seen this band live, I will have you know that they can amazingly nail all of this music’s intricacy, beauty and energy in a live setting.” Mike Newman, The Vinyl District

It's been nearly 3 years since the last Bryan Scary release. If you're already a fan, you know that's about 3 years too many. If this is the first you're hearing of Scary, then get ready: his new album, Daffy's Elixiris about to flood your ears with grandiose 70's inspired experimental indie pop.  Having recently played Daffy's Elixir in its entirety at NYC's (le) Poisson Rouge venue and now plotting an Off-Broadway theatre work centered around the record, Scary is awing existing fans all-the-while quickly attracting new ones with this bold new project.

Scary's previous records garnered critical acclaim from the likes of Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, SPIN, Stereogum, USA Today, iTunes, Daytrotter, Perez Hilton, RCRD LBL, Paste, Filter, IFC, NY Post and endless others. But we believe Bryan Scary is at his peak with Daffy's Elixir, a 70-minute opus two years in the making.

"They [Bryan Scary] are from New York and they're really unbelievable. Very conceptual. They sound like a mixture of Queen, ELO, The Beatles and Zappa...quite theatrical and entertaining." -

Elijah Wood, in an interview with Nylon Magazine
If you're lucky enough to be biting from the Big Apple, Bryan Scary will be playing a couple key shows in the coming months. He'll be playing at Joe's Pub (with fellow label-mates Little Tybee) on April 11th, and the Daffy's Elixir record release show on April 24th @ Brooklyn Bowl.

WHO IS BRYAN SCARY?

Bryan Scary tells fantastic tales. His art-pop songs may paint him as a schizophrenic musical oddball, but the eccentricities are hardly frivolous. They stem from a carefully tailored vision, an ambitious and well-honed mutation of the rock and roll storytelling tradition. Bryan Scary is himself a story years in the making.

Bryan Scary, the NYU Film Student:
At film school, disillusioned by camera-folk, Scary (then Bryan Treitler) recorded his first album, THE SHREDDING TEARS. Much like some other indie favorites (Sufjan Stevens, Beirut, etc.), Scary played every instrument on his debut. He won over L.A. label Black & Green Records and the album was released on Halloween of 2006. To support the record, Scary put together a touring band – ALSO called The Shredding Tears – a confusing predicament which the songwriter has recently remedied with a scalpel (he’s just Bryan Scary now).

Bryan Scary, Prog-Pop Storyteller:
Scary and his band developed a glammy theatrical stage show that quickly drew a large word-of-mouth following. Narrative songs were given glittering visual representation, complete with oddball costumes and set pieces, with everything filtered through Scary’s darkly comedic and maniacal stage persona. Scary managed to create a world . It was not just a concert, but a show in the old-fashioned sense of the word – a spectacle for the haters at the back of the bar. The band drew comparisons to Queen, ELO, Sparks, and Of Montreal, among other artists unafraid to court the dramatic. After some heavy touring, Scary returned to the studio and crafted FLIGHT OF THE KNIFE (2008), the first album to feature his touring ensemble. It was a conceptual work inspired in-part by Thomas Pynchon’s epic novel “Against The Day,” with nearly every song delineating a tale of flight, airships, or the wild blue yonder. The record got heady with interwoven themes of innocence lost and the uses of enchantment. It opened with a magical fairy-tale and closed with a cynical commentary on that same fairy tale. Fanciful, poppy and psychedelic (albeit with a glamorous 70′s bend), the material on FLIGHT OF THE KNIFE was built around ADD-inflicted arrangements and liberal genre-playing, as the band careened from jazz to funk to classical to country to music-hall….

Bryan Scary, the Ever-Resilient Star:
FLIGHT OF THE KNIFE led to two years of touring. Critical acclaim poured in -  the album received praise from Pitchfork, SPIN, Rolling Stone, MTV and other delectable periodicals. It was the “Editor’s Pick” on iTunes and managed to peak at #6 in their Rock Albums section. Then came the bad news. Mid-tour in L.A., while preparing to record an EP for Elijah Woods’ Simian Record, the band’s van and trailer was stolen…along with all of their gear! Tour derailed. Goodbye original Moog synthesizers and sparkling 60s Slingerland kit. Cry us a river. But Bryan Scary is both a pragmatist and an optimist. Yes, the band was stuck in L.A., but the quarantine allowed them ample time to finish up the 5 track EP for Simian. Most of that EP was produced by thenewno2 member Jonathan Sadoff. Later, Scary added a 6th track produced with Bryce Goggin (Apples in Stereo, Pavement). The completed MAD VALENTINES EP was released in late 2009.

Bryan Scary, Man of the Theater:
During the L.A. days, Scary and then manager Dave Zonshine began work developing a political-themed rock opera with Interscope. This sparked for the songwriter a new-found focus on musical theater song-craft, an influence always essential to his work. Scary is now also developing an ARCHIE comics musical for Playing Pretend Productions, and he is a member of BMI’s Lehman Engel workshop. He writes and records film/television music with composer Giulio Carmassi (the duo recently started a music production house called SCARY CAR).

Bryan Scary, the Visioneer:
Scary’s newest album DAFFY’S ELIXIR, 2 years in the making, will be released on Paper Garden Records in April 2012. To fund the record, Scary launched a successful Kickstarter campaign, raising over $16,000 in fan donations (and that during the earliest epoch of the now established website). The album was recorded throughout 2010 in a variety of studios with a revolving door of engineers and instrumentalists. The completed DAFFY’S ELIXIR is an epic double album featuring cons, quacks, cow-gal robots, spurned lovers, villains and bandits, all set in the Old West. Euro-centric art-pop meets Spaghetti-Westernisms and old-timey yarn spinning, a unique stew congealed by Scary’s most ambitious musical arrangements yet. With an expanded 9 piece lineup, and a boatload of fresh material, the new and improved Bryan Scary will be crashing into living rooms and stealing eardrums throughout 2012 (and beyond).

IF THESE TREES COULD TALK: Guitar World Premieres Title Track From "Red Forest"

Never before has such a unique and unexpected form of music such as this been able to captivate, illuminate and inspire without words the way in which If Trees Could Talk manage to do in Red Forest. - Vents Magazine

Throughout Red Forest there is a driving rhythm that often whips the instrumentals into a frenzy and lets the melodies soar all around the listener until they reach a climax.  It's a formula that gives the group a different feel, and on certain songs the heaviness of the arrangements gives off a slight metal vibe. - Cosmosgaming.com

GuitarWorld.com has premiered the title track from If These Trees Could Talk's March 20th full-length release, Red Forest.  "Red Forest" finds The Trees using a rhythmic crescendo throughout the eight and a half minute long song that cumulates with astounding guitar tones that they have not used previously.  Fans will notice from the first notes played that this is a stark difference from the first song revealed, "Barren Lands of the Modern Dinosaur."

Vinyl pre-orders for Red Forest sold out within days of going on sale at the Science of Silence Records webstore, however you can pre-order CD's from the band by going here -www.ifthesetreescouldtalk.bigcartel.com.

The Trees will be playing a hometown record release show on March 16th at Musica in Akron, OH.  If you live in the area and would like to attend the show, go to TicketWeb to purchase your tickets.  Europeans are very fortunate to get a two week tour from the band in April.  See below for a full list of dates.

Brooklyn-based collage artist Realistic debuts video for new single "Token Gestures" today.

“Token Gestures” is the first single & video from the upcoming new album “Drowned In Meaning” by Realistic.

“Towning demonstrates a knack for unconventional looping, sonic accumulation, and a good joke.” – All Music Guide

Following up previous releases for the Illegal Art (Girl Talk) and Seeland Records (Negativland) labels among others, Brooklyn-based electronic collage artist James Towning will release his latest album as Realistic this week on February 29th.

Drowned In Meaning’s first single is “Token Gestures” where the Hall & Oates hit “Kiss On My List”, vintage tape of the Mars rover lift off sequence, the sound of a fireworks display that Towning recorded in Brooklyn Heights, and a few dozen additional pieces of audio combine to form a track that sounds strange, familiar and strangely familiar.

The video for the song is now streaming.  Towning says that the clip “is an exploration of multi-layered compositing techniques similar to how the music is created. Snippets of video fromDavid BowieThe Mighty Boosh, and ‘The Big Blue Marble’ are synchronized with the original samples and combined with stock footage of people pretending to feel emotion.”

Drowned In Meaning (the album title is intentionally sarcastic) features 16 tracks comprised of hundreds of samples -- some obvious, some obviously obscure -- stitched and layered withTowning’s own synthesizers, drum machines, digital effects, and keen sense of humor.

“More often than not, I’m drawn to using samples that strike a personal or nostalgic chord,” Towning explains. “I might use two bars from a favorite Cabaret Voltaire track, a snippet from a TV series, or environmental sounds recorded around my neighborhood. Every track has undiscovered conceptual references or an abstract story that I can tell with a new sound that I have on hand.”

Drowned In Meaning, the latest album by Realistic is set for release on the artist’s own Blackmail Electronics label on February 29th, 2012.

Terry Malts premieres music video for "I Do"

Terry Malts

Terry Malts - I Do from Slumberland Records on Vimeo.

After careful, weeklong consideration, Terry Malts (San Francisco, CA) have decided to go forth and record a debut LP as per the request of Slumberland Records.  Displaying a slick, intelligent take on modern chainsaw pop, KILLING TIME certainly lives up to its name!

The wrong turns that led us here: a 6-song cassette (Log Lady; 2010, now in its second pressing), and two 7" singles (both Slumberland; 2011).

Who is/are/was/will be Terry Malts?  A yellow-pages private dick has gleaned the following: Corey Cunningham (guitar, backing vox), by way of Dickson, TN-cum-cardboard-box-in-Toronto, was asked to housesit in Fresno, CA.  Duties fulfilled, he shot north on a graffiti trip to 924 Gilman St. and immediately bonded with fellow men's room "artists" Phil Benson (bass guitar, lead vox) and the unfortunately-named Nathan Sweatt (drums, backing vox).

Hands shook, vibes exchanged; the trio felt compelled to distill their energy into a unified voice.  Terry's gospel is succinct, direct, sincere, and timed expertly with next year's looming apocalypse: life is hopeless, enjoy!

With a live reputation that bleeds funky "Punk" attitude, I've been told this urgency has been crammed into the TM studio edition.  Recorded by a machine, then expertly mixed by human being Monte Vallier (Weekend, Young Prisms), this music may compel you to type the following buzzwords into your blog (which, I LOVE, by the way!): catchy, husky, hunky, sharp, blue-collar, rocking, hockey-rock, working-class, perfect, near-perfect, not-half-bad, and/or not-bad.

It's an album, it's a lifestyle, it's a 34-minute hour of pure, unadulterated Malts... alright?

- Matthew Kallman
