Rest in Peace, Mike Scaccia

With the utmost sadness and respect, we're posting to inform you that this past Saturday, on December 22rd, Mike Scaccia passed away while performing on stage at the Rail Club in Texas.

Although some of you might not recognize his name, you'll definitely know his sound—Scaccia was the lead guitarist for bands that both we and our readers love, such as Ministry, Rigor Mortis, and The Revolting Cocks.

All of us here at Movement would like to express our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Mike Scaccia.

Delerium Releases
Days Turn Into Nights EP
INCLUDES REMIXES BY ANDY CALDWELL, SEVEN LIONS & SOLARSTONE

Click Below to Listen to the Days Turn Into Night EP:

The nine-song EP includes several remixes by house impresario Andy Caldwell, dubstep producer Seven Lions (aka Jeff Montalvo) and English trance artist Richard Mowatt, better known as Solarstone. With each remix comes various edits on the standout track.

With two decades worth of music, Delerium continues to make waves in the electronic world, with Days Turn Into Nights as the #1 Breakout song this week on the Billboard Clubs chart.

In the past, Delerium has featured strong female vocalists—having worked with Leigh Nash (of Sixpence None the Richer), Miranda Lee Richards, Butterfly Boucher, Emily Haines (of Metric) and the most commercially successful single, Silence, featured Sarah McLachlan. Only once since Matthew Sweet on Daylight (from 2000’s Poem) has Delerium brought in a male vocalist.

Bill Leeb (Front Line Assembly, Skinny Puppy), the creator/brainchild of Delerium—which includes collaborators Rhys Fulber, Jared Slingerland and Jeremy Inkel—has sold over 3 million units worldwide and over a million albums in North America.

They Might Be Giants New Album Nanobots Out 03/05/13 + US Tour Dates Announced Including 3 NYC New Year's Eve Shows

Album & Tour News from They Might Be Giants
Nanobots Out March 5 on Idlewild Recordings

SOLD OUT Brooklyn New Year’s Shows kick off 2013 Tour

They Might Be Giants have perfected their deliriously catchy, original sound over the past three decades. The two-time GRAMMY winning Brooklyn originals return with charming wit, electrifying pop melodies and just enough bass clarinet on their 16th studio album. Created at the private studio of their long time collaborator and producer Patrick Dillett (David Byrne, Mary J. Blige, Tegan and Sara), Nanobots will be released March 5, 2013 via Idlewild Recordings and distributed through Megaforce.

TMBG “combine a Dadaist sensibility with smart hooks.”

—The New Yorker

“They make defiantly uncool look and sound unbelievably cool…”

—Village Voice

Nanobots finds the band in fine form. Title track Nanobots puts a dark cartoonish spin on the world of technology while the call and response chorus and percussive guitar line of “You’re On Fire” dares even the grumpiest wallflower not to dance. Blending the band’s signature storytelling, some dueling horns and sly humor, “Call You Mom” is a caffeinated pop gem. Download the "Call You Mom" MP3 where it premiered with Rolling Stone today & we encourage you to post & share.

They Might Be Giants’ innovative Dial-A-Song service and imaginative high concept, low budget music videos stood the band apart early in their career quickly rocketing the alternative rockers to mainstream success. Known for recording numerous themes most notably The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, and the GRAMMY-winning Malcolm In the Middle theme, the band has 2 platinum albums, 2 gold albums, and have been nominated for 3 GRAMMYs, winning two. Known for their energized live show and love of the road, the band will kick off a 60-date international tour on February 27. Lucky fans in NYC will have several chances to experience the band’s explosive live show once more in 2012 at their three SOLD OUT New Year’s shows at Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg. Stay tuned for more from They Might Be Giants coming soon!

“Unpredictable and satisfying.”

—The Daily News

“Delightfully dark.”

—SPIN Magazine

“(III) is an expertly produced album that, at just nearly 40 minutes, leaves fans wanting more.”

—Billboard Magazine

“Make no mistake: (III) is a great album… there’s no shortage of superb tracks to choose from”

—PASTE Magazine

“This latest chapter surges forth newly whole, cohesive and affecting. Melodically and texturally taut, (III) whips around the only kind of emotion that adequately responds to this uncertain world. It's an invisibly political record--and an absolutely necessary one.”

—PREFIX Magazine

“Like the most genuine hardcore music of the Reagan era, (III) is a battle cry that can’t be contained.”

—eMusic

“Unflinchingly defiant, and viscerally cathartic. Rage to it, scream to it, dance to it—but listen to it.”

—Mother Jones

“Alice Glass turns in a set of vocal performances that are near transcendent.”

—BUZZINE

“Crystal Castles has always been great at turning chaos into dance music, and on III, it shows it has only gotten better.”

—East Bay Express

“Switching to an analog studio was definitely a risky endeavor for a digital band, but (III) proves some things are worth the risk.”

—MXDWN

“This grim side of humanity, that is so blatant within the album artwork, will also seep its way throughout the entire LP, leaving a rather remarkable and chilling presence that only Crystal Castles is capable of producing.”

—Filter Magazine

Native Instruments introduces Abbey Road Vintage Drummer

Berlin, December 5, 2012—Native Instruments today introduced ABBEY ROAD VINTAGE DRUMMER, a new KONTAKT instrument that features the sound of two vintage drum kits from the 1940s. Both kits were recorded with a combination of state-of-the-art equipment and period microphones at Abbey Road Studios in London, providing a natural, open sound suitable for contemporary productions. For the first time in Native Instruments' successful ABBEY ROAD Series, VINTAGE DRUMMER includes brush articulations especially recorded to provide the authentic sound and style of the swing/big band era.

ABBEY ROAD VINTAGE DRUMMER features extremely rare instruments from the earliest period of trap kit recording. The first kit consists of a 1940 Leedy 26“ bass drum, and two late-1930s tom toms once owned and used by the legendary percussionist James Blades. This combination delivers an earthy, wide open sound that lends itself to recordings where bigger, but less focused, low end is desired. A classic 1940s Slingerland Radio King was also sampled for this release. The Slingerland's smaller 22“ bass drum and 13“ and 16“ toms provide more focus than the James Blades kit, but still deliver a warm, chunky timbre to any producer seeking a unique, natural drum sound. To add to the authenticity of this KONTAKT instrument, both kits were recorded with original calfskin heads, period snare drums dating back to the 1920s and original Trans Stamp and First Stamp Zildjian cymbals.

VINTAGE DRUMMER was recorded at London's Abbey Road Studios in legendary Studio Two, originally constructed in the 1930s for big band recording. Alongside traditional microphone techniques, two extremely rare vintage microphones manufactured by EMI in the 1930s were used to add unique tonal color to VINTAGE DRUMMER. Users can mix in these 'vintage channels' with the modern state of the art equipment for a wide variety of unique tones not found with modern kits and equipment alone. Any combination of modern and vintage equipment can be dialed in, allowing users to customize the sound in unique and powerful ways.

VINTAGE DRUMMER also features brush articulations—a first for an ABBEY ROAD Series release. Users get inspiring brush techniques, alongside traditional snare sounds played with sticks. All articulations also come as grooves in the included groove library, which contains patterns from ragtime, swing, and jazz as well as a wealth of modern soul, funk, and indie styles. Regardless of genre, producers looking to add original flavor to their productions will find unique textures in ABBEY ROAD VINTAGE DRUMMER.

ABBEY ROAD VINTAGE DRUMMER is available at the NI Online Shop for $119 / 99 EUR.

The tour was announced today by the group and Live Nation, the tour’s national promoter. Fleetwood Mac Live 2013 arena tour includes stops in Philadelphia, New York City, Boston, Chicago and a special appearance at the historic Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. Tickets for the first run of shows go on sale beginning December 14th at Ticketmaster.com.

Multi Grammy-winning and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees, Fleetwood Mac last toured in 2009 with the sold out Unleashed tour. The new tour also marks the 35th anniversary of the release of their classic Rumours album (1977), one of the most successful albums in recorded history with sales exceeding 40 million copies. Rumours planted itself at the top of the pop charts for over 31 weeks and had four top ten singles.

To coincide with the tour and anniversary, a new deluxe reissue of Rumours with previously unreleased studio and live tracks will be released in early 2013 from Rhino. More details on the set will be announced soon. The current Fleetwood Mac lineup includes Mick Fleetwood and John McVie—both original members since 1967, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks who joined the band in 1975.

“Having started Fleetwood Mac with John McVie in 1967, it has always been so gratifying that despite the various incarnations, the band has survived. Throughout the years, though, the one thing that has remained constant is our fans. I am looking forward to getting back behind the kit, reconnecting with the fans and sharing the stage with my fellow band members.”

—Mick Fleetwood

“After spending four days at Lindsey’s house working on music and one really fun day doing a crazy photo session, I am quite excited about next year. Everything seems to be falling into place. 2013 looks like the year of Fleetwood Mac.”

—Stevie Nicks

“I’m really looking forward to hitting the road with Stevie, Mick and John in 2013. It’s been over three years since we’ve toured together and happily the break allowed me to explore a lot of uncharted territory as well as experience tremendous growth creatively. I’m excited to bring that back to the band. When everyone in FM wants the same thing at the same time, it’s cause for celebration. Long Live Fleetwood Mac!”

—Lindsey Buckingham

“I’m really looking forward to going back on the road.”

—John McVie

Nicks has just completed a two year tour coinciding with the release of her critically acclaimed In Your Dreams CD which debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard Pop Charts. In Your Dreams was released on Reprise Records in 2011, and was co-written and co-produced by Dave Stewart and Glen Ballard. Nicks also produced and co-directed a documentary film of the recording of In Your Dreams which has received rave reviews at the Hamptons International Film Festival along with several other film festivals.

Buckingham has been touring to sold-out crowds over the last year in conjunction with his critically acclaimed September 2011 release of Seeds We Sow, his 6th solo studio album and first independent release, which debuted at No. 6 on Billboard’s Rock Album Chart. He was recently honored with ASCAP’s Golden Note Award, and has also received the prestigious Les Paul Award.

In August, Mick Fleetwood opened his brand new restaurant, Fleetwood’s On Front Street, in Lahaina on Maui. The grand opening included musical performances by Mick, Steven Tyler, Jonny Lang and more. Mick also founded Mick Fleetwood’s Private Cellar, which has produced over 20 vintages and varietals earning multiple medals in international tastings. Mick’s band, The Mick Fleetwood Blues Band, was nominated for a Grammy in 2010 for their album Blue Again.

John McVie has spent the past three years enjoying his family and solitude at home in Hawaii.

Lamb of God Manager Respondes to Blythe Indictment

As news breaks of Randy Blythe’s indictment on manslaughter charges in the Czech Republic, manager Larry Mazer responds with the following statement:

“After a three month investigation, the prosecutor in the Czech Republic has decided to move forward with an indictment of Randy Blythe on the charge of manslaughter with intent to cause bodily harm. Obviously, we intend to fight vigorously against these charges as we feel that in no way did Randy intend to cause bodily harm on the young fan who subsequently died from injuries sustained at the show. As he has stated previously, Randy intends to go to Prague to defend himself at trial.

While it is a tragedy that a Lamb of God fan died following a performance by the group, in no way do I feel that Randy did anything improper that led to the young man’s injuries and subsequent death. The price of a ticket to a show does not entitle audience members access to a band’s stage. In the years since the murder on stage of Dimebag Darrell Abbott, performers of all genres have had to become more guarded while performing in response to the dangers presented by fans trying to become part of the performance. We believe that Randy responded professionally to the numerous amount of fans rushing the stage that day, a number of them captured on videos that have been posted on the internet. We have testimony from the venue operator that acknowledges lax security and an improper barricade being used that evening. Numerous testimonies from fans also were contradictory as to the actions of the multiple fans that tried to access the stage.

At this point, all that the band, myself, and our lawyers can do is to present a defense and try to convince the panel of judges who will hear the case that Randy is innocent of all charges and that his name and reputation need to be cleared and that he be permitted to carry on with his life and career always mindful that a fan passed away after a Lamb of God performance.”

Larry Mazer (Manager, Lamb of God)
