Friends Hit The Road Tonight With Two Door Cinema Club

Brooklyn-based band Friends will hit the road this fall with Two Door Cinema Club kicking off tonight at the famed Central Park Summerstage in New York City and winding down in Santa Ana, CA at The Observatory on Sunday, October 28th.

Friends - Samantha Urbani (Vox), Nikki Shapiro (Guitar/Keys), Oliver Duncan (Percussion), and V (Bass) - are touring in support of their heralded, self-produced debut album, Manifest!, released by Fat Possum Records on June 5th.The album is a collection of fun/funky/danceable pop hits, with powerful lyrical themes touching on polyamory, anarchism, empowerment of the individual, being wary of the government and media, existential awe, etc. Manifest! was hailed by The New York Times as"one of the year's most breathless debuts." Publications from Dazed and Confused to The London Times all agree that if there "is to be one more band from Brooklyn then it should be Friends."

Friends are known for their highly spirited live shows, where attendees can expect to be danced with, kissed, and tattooed. Having toured non-stop for the past year, the band most recently brought their "untouchable, cool and indelible, hook-laden pop music," (Q Magazine) to festival audiences across Europe including two SOLD OUT shows in London.

See them for yourself and quickly learn why NME called them "One of 100 New Bands You Have To Hear."

In the early eighties, a London sex cult infiltrated underground discotheques based on the principle that the secret to immortality was found through engaging in intimate acts of love. To retain their anonymity, members went by the acronym I.M.M.OR.T.A.L.I.F.E., or 'Inner Messages Morphing Over Resonant Time, Always Loving Infinitely Free and Everlasting'. For years, I.M.M.O.R.T.A.L.I.F.E. dedicated itself to recording dance track hymnals that would provoke lovemaking acts and thus prolong the lives of its members. When the end of the world came, the group was found frozen in midst of an orgiastic collapse. They had not slept or eaten in thirteen days.

White track “Scene & Modify.”  The release will also be availble digitally.

White remixing the original work of the “S&M” remixers. White’s glossy production and writing style has led to remixes for Phenomenal Handclap Band, Fol Chen, Boy in Static andFaunts.

Critics and fans often relate to White's unique blending of ultra-modern production infused with his own organic instrumentation and he is an official showcasing artist at CMJ 2012.  From finger picked and crystallized guitars paired with beat driven female vocals to live funky bass grooves under futuristic soaring synths, constant new ground is touched in the music of T.H. White. Foundations lie in the world of DJ/Producers such as Thievery Corporation, LCD Sound System andMoby as his sound interlaces his influences of golden Hip-Hop, psychedelic 70s funk rock and lush lounge beats.

T.H. White Scene & Modify Split 12-inch EP Tracklist:
Side A:
1- Scene & Modify (With Lions remix)
2- Scene & Modify (Dub City remix)

White is one of the few beat makers that can lay claim to being a musician first and DJ-Producer by default.  Sprinklings of enough genres to satisfy a wide range of music fans.”
— Paper Magazine

“With such clever and eclectic touches, this throbbing electro-pop shows a gift for titillating, slinky melodies from the club to the breakfast table.  White’s got the skills and the songs are energetic.”
— SPIN Magazine

“T.H. White’s not your average icy synthesizer.”
— Stereogum

The Dig's 24-date American tour starts 10/3 with The We Shared Milk

Video “I Already Forgot Everything You Said” HERE

New York indie rock band The Dig are giving their fans a gift, as stated on their site: "Email your ticket receipt for any show on the fall tour to thedig@redlightmanagement.com to redeem a free download of The Dig’s new album, Midnight Flowers."

Earlier the band shared the music video for their acclaimed single “I Already Forgot Everything You Said”, which has been described as a “dreamy track, filled with butterfly-inducing harmonies,” the band chose a run-down but still majestic 19th century building at 5 Beekman Street in Manhattan’s Financial District. In fact, “We were the last people to shoot in this amazing old space before it was gutted,” says singer and bassistEmile Mosseri. The crumbling surroundings still hint at former glories, as befits a song about past loves. Mosseri continues, “The space has kind of a haunting quality to it and we felt like the mood of the song fit the vibe of the building… We all wrote this song together as a band and feel it captures the tone of our new record.” Watch the video for“I Already Forgot Everything You Said” on PureVolume HERE and HERE.

The Dig released their new album Midnight Flowers on May 29th via Buffalo Jump Records.  Last July they moved to Los Angeles by popular demand for a residency at Silverlake Lounge after playing their successful shows with Ben Kweller in May.  The band is proud to lend their single to Turn the Tide: Songs for "Last Call at the Oasis" a companion charity album to the new film Last Call at the Oasis in support of the global water crisis alongside 20 unreleased exclusive tracks from artists including Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds, Alabama Shakes, My Morning Jacket and more.

The Dig's sound has been developing ever since the band's two singers Emile Mosseriand David Baldwin started making music together when they were eleven years old.  After meeting California native Erick Eiser, the three songwriters have been writing tunes and playing in different bands since they were 16 years old. Anchored by sharp guitars, a woozy synth backdrop and airtight vocal harmonies, the new album Midnight Flowers which is produced by Bryce Goggin (Pavement, The Apples In Stereo, Swans, Antony & The Johnsons) via Buffalo Jump Records. It recalls styles ranging from T. Rex to Brian Eno to The Everly Brothers.

SCOTT KELLY AND THE ROAD HOME: West Coast Tour To Commence This Weekend

This weekend, founding Neurosis guitarist/vocalist SCOTT KELLY will take to the road for a four-show California tour in support of his recently released third solo album, The Forgiven Ghost In Me. For the first time, KELLY will be joined on these shows by cohorts Noah Landis and Greg Dale as SCOTT KELLY AND THE ROAD HOME, bringing his dark Americana to fruition on stage in a whole new way, as they did on the new album.

The action begins this Saturday in San Francisco and play through Oakland, Fullerton and Los Angeles, with opening support from YOB frontman Mike Scheidt.

Stream the title track to the new album “The Forgiven Ghost In Me” via Decibel Magazine’s blog RIGHT HERE.

SCOTT KELLY AND THE ROAD HOME live performances:
9/29/2012 Hemlock Tavern - San Francisco, CA Hemlock Tavern w/ Mike Scheidt
9/30/2012 Uptown Nightclub - Oakland, CA w/ Mike Scheidt
10/01/2012 The Slidebar - Fullerton, CA w/ Mike Scheidt
10/02/2012 Cineplex at the Silent Movie Theater - Los Angeles, CA w/ Mike Scheidt

Dissimilar to his previous solo outings, on The Forgiven Ghost In Me KELLY sought out additional musicians to help create his vision for this release, recruiting good friends Noah Landis (Neurosis) and Greg Dale, forming SCOTT KELLY AND THE ROAD HOME. Additionally, Jason Roeder (Neurosis, Sleep) and Josh Graham (A Storm Of Light, Neurosis) make guest appearances on the album. These additional instrumental and vocal contributions add incredible new dimensions to KELLY’s foreboding tales. The eight tracks were recorded by Landis, the album running deep with over forty minutes of foreboding Americana showcasing the ever-evolving artist brandishing some of his most expressive hymns of pain, reflection and redemption to date

Oreo Jones' new single "No Coast" and Betty Love Letters

It has been whirlwind of activity for Oreo Jones the past weeks – and Betty seems to be everyone's favorite granny these days (the album is named after Oreo's late grandmother, Betty Jean Smith).  Radio, blogs and newspapers across the country are in love with the album – it even crushed the competition to win a Magnet magazine poll of the most anticipated fall releases.  But Oreo doesn’t just drop an album and then fade into the ether – the work is just beginning.

After a successful release of the first video, "Needy", this week VICE exclusively premiered the latest video single, "No Coast" (ft. J-Hex) and it grabbed over 1000 eyeballs in just a couple days. The song is about restless souls growing up in the Midwest (and wanting to escape – of course) and was also featured by MOKB on Sirius XMU.  You can practically feel the buzz building like static in your laundry when you run out of Snuggle.

Big things are also cooking for the next single "Burnt Circles", bringing a West Coast flavor in the track courtesy of San Francisco band Burnt Ones.  And not to leave anyone out, East Coast winter tour dates with DMA (formerly Jookabox of Asthmetic Kitty and Joyful Noise) will be posted in just a few short weeks.

Links to the videos and the deluxe version of the album are just below, so you don't worry about having to dig through previous emails to give it a listen.  We get it – Oreo Jones is an unknown quantity, or maybe hip-hop just isn’t your thing … but trust us, Betty will be the album that changes all that.

Love Letters:
My Old Kentucky Blog (MOKB)
"He’s charismatic and intelligent...and has an easy ability to pull in people from all walks to create memorable music."

TheGetDownn.com
"
Do not take Betty lightly — a profound, and complex listening experience awaits!"

LEO Weekly
"From the synth-pop sounds of modern rap radio to boom bap to a couple rock-flavored cuts, there’s not a skipper in the bunch. Oreo Jones is a name to watch."

WHY? premieres music video for "Strawberries," Mumps, etc. drops next week

VIDEO: "Strawberries" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47u8kSRusfE&feature=youtu.be

ALBUM STREAM: Mumps, etc. -
http://www.spin.com/articles/why-kaleidoscopic-folk-rap-opus-mumps-etc-track-by-track-stream

Nipping at the ragged heels of their eagerly devoured Sod in the Seed EP (which you can download for FREE here), WHY? at last unleash their fifth long-player, a meticulous work of morbid fascination and offbeat romanticism dubbed Mumps, etc. Though there is a mysterious sickness (perhaps of the mind) that lurks about these thirteen songs, one might also imagine the title as describing the musically swole state of these three Midwestern men as they bring their sound into glisteningly buff focus. Yoni Wolf, brother Josiah and Doug McDiarmid are in the pocket, the unbreakable rock core at the center of a spinning ball of sonic kaleidoscopie. And all the things we love about them are still true: the grinning sun-warped choruses, that jangly Western lope, those confessionals cut with wry wit and crude details, set dancing down the odd knots of complex poetic daisy chains. It's just that ... well, all of it sounds better than ever this time around.

Part of that is due to how Mumps, etc. was made. Far from their native Cincinnati, the fellas spent a month and a half in the Denton, Texas, studio of Centro-Matic's Matt Pence. They showed up with a pile of demos suspected to be nearly done-some five years in the making-but their aspirations evolved in the shadow of the great University of North Texas music school. Reaching out to a professor therein, they wrangled an ace crew of green-and-white gunslingers to exact their wild schemes: a string quartet, an eight-person choir, woodwinds, horns. The whole set was recorded to two-inch tape (no loops), produced by the Wolf brothers, and mixed in Atlanta by Graham Marsh (Cee Lo Green, Katy Perry) with Yoni. Thus every song pops exactly as it should, smearing genre with pointed intent until the end result became an articulated work of unusual artistry and catchiness-a WHY? record, naturally.

We're not here to tell you what to like; the highlights are many. There's the opener "Jonathan's Hope," rattling forth over a pile of cooing ladies and crunching percussion, its measured optimism leveled at the songs that follow. There's "Waterlines," which folds idyllic harps figures into a darkly shimmering beat while Yoni drops backwards brags-"Rocking soccer socks with sandals like, 'Yeah, bro.'"-and dissects his public persona. "White English" bounces over some kind of mutant mariachi dub, a continuation of the coiled grooves WHY? devised for Serengeti's Family & Friends (2011). "Thirst" bends Mumps' spare chamber-pop into a desert-worthy drawl, bullwhips cracking and spurs jingling under a tale about black cowboys and failing faith. And "Kevin's Cancer"-written for an afflicted fan-hits upon a moment of WHY?-style clarity: "I know with no uncertainty, that I'm uncertain and I don't know."

Still, we are fairly certain that "Paper Hearts" is something extra special. Offering but a single two-and-a-half minute verse, the song is gorgeously detailed and surprisingly uncoded, unspooling as it goes a gut-wrenching end to an important relationship, and shining harsh light on a narrator who often likes to hide his truths in acts of on-album villainy. ("Bitter Thoughts," featuring Liz Wolf, being a perfect example.) So when Mumps, etc. ends one track later, with Yoni promising providence over his own death while pizzicato strings brighten the closing corners, we understand both the sad futility and the unabashed hope wrapped up in that statement. And, along with the taut arrangements and imaginative musicianship, it's that skewed but forever winking eye on the human condition that keeps us wrapped up in WHY?

THE VERY END to Release Turn Off the World November 27th in North America via Steamhammer/SPV

Artwork and Tracklisting Revealed

It takes great determination and lots of self-confidence for an otherwise English-speaking metal act to garnish the opener of their new album with two German lines:

Eins, zwei, drei, vier - the very end is here,
We try to leave but someone's locked all the doors,
Fünf, sechs, sieben, acht - wer hat´s kaputtgemacht?
We try to forget but there is blood on the floor

THE VERY END are obviously here to decry injustice. After all, a lot of damage is currently being done to humankind version 2.0 in terms of permanent stimulus satiation, a decline in traditional values and an addiction to extreme experiences. So should the light be switched off and the world be eliminated, as the album title Turn Off The World suggests? "No, says vocalist Björn Gooßes, "But we shouldn't accept everything without question." THE VERY END's third album has been scheduled for release on November 27th in North America and its set to impress listeners with authenticity and an uncompromising attitude in every single note. THE VERY END come from the Ruhr area, a region with a traditionally large working-class population, and - like their geographical and stylistic neighbors Kreator and Sodom - they have been forged from real steel.

Thanks to a band who have grown even stronger after two line-up changes, their metal doesn't shine on Turn Off The World, but comes across like a jagged, yet razor-sharp blade. Along with vocalist Björn Gooßes, guitarist René Bogdanski and bassist Marc Beste, the two new additions Alex Bartkowski (guitars, ex-Guerrilla) and Daniel Zeman (drums, Enemy Of The Sun) have been vital in perfecting THE VERY END's typical mix of hard riffs, ferocious grooves and melodic passages. Thrash numbers such as "Iron Sky" stand side by side with epic wrecking-ball tracks along the lines of "To Feed On Hope" and melancholy titles like "Maelstrom Calling".

The band reenlisted the producer/sound engineer team of Waldemar Sorychta and Dennis Koehne, who worked on their 2011 release Mercy & Misery. Gooßes commented on working with Waldemar and Dennis again, "We learned an awful lot from Waldemar and Dennis on Mercy & Misery. This time around, it was more like a fruitful exchange of opinions which has lead to an awesome result."

A result which included Entombed's LG Petrov contributing guest vocals on the death metal-oriented track "The Black Fix". States the band, "Naturally, being fans of old-school death metal, LG is one of our old-time heroes whom we are proud to present on our new album." Turn Off The World consists of eleven songs which would easily be capable of switching off the world - but not before every fan of tough metal sounds has listened to this outstanding album!

Lust For Youth announces album & shares song

Sacred Bones is pleased to release Swedish artist Lust For Youth's 2011 release, Growing Seeds for the 1st time in North America (Released in Europe on AVANT!, the Sacred Bones release will feature 3 new songs).

Today, Lust For Youth shares the 1st single, "Behind Curtains", hear it now at Pitchfork.

Lust For Youth is the solo moniker of Swedish electronic musician, Hannes Norrvide. He began the project in 2009, in Gothenburg, Sweden at Utmarken (a rehearsal space, record shop, and venue). He was inspired by friends of his who were starting a post-punk band but at the time he only had an old toy keyboard.

Some of the original versions of the songs on Growing Seeds were written during the summer of 2011, recorded in Hannes' bedroom on his computer and using borrowed equipment from his roommate. He did everything himself except the mastering which was handled by Viktor Ottosson (Street Drinkers, Looks of Love, Järtecknet). Four of the songs ended up on a cassette on Posh Isolation released in 2011. Shortly after that he began writing new songs and re-working some of the pieces during last fall and then recorded them in January/February 2012. He also made the move from Gothenburg to Copenhagen this year and eloquently points out the main difference between Lust For Youth and the power-electronics, noise scene of Posh Isolation/ Copenhagen is Lust For Youth is "less noise and more drums." Loke Rahbek of the Posh label, Sexdrome and Vår is now a collaborator of Hannes' on this project and has been playing live with him in Europe throughout the last year. The album itself Hannes describes as having the theme of a new life; coming out of an unhealthy relationship and being inspired by new love and  the energy that creates. Originally released in Europe by the Italian label AVANT!, Growing Seeds is now widely available on CD and LP for the 1st time. Sacred Bones will be releasing Lust For Youth's follow up LP in the first half of next year. After having played Incubate Festival in Tilburg for the Sacred Bones/Posh Isolation co-curated evening, Hannes and Loke will be touring the US this December for the first time, including stops in LA and NY. The CD version of this album also contains three bonus tracks which originally appeared on the Saluting Rome EP (Posh Isolation cassette, AVANT! 12").

THE BLAKES -- Announce Tour Dates and CMJ

"The Blakes return with yet another stellar record proving they're one of the best rock bands out there today."
– John Richards, KEXP

“Dandy Warhols-ish swampy guitars, twitchy Strokes rhythms, and power-pop vocal harmonies, offering an energetic and unmannered romp through modern rock radio.”
– Pitchfork

The Blakes are back on the road next month showcasing at CMJ followed by tour dates in Philly, Boston, DC and Chicago with more dates to be added soon.

The Seattle trio released Art of Losses this summer and in 34 minutes, the album zips through dreamy pop, electro-tinged rock, moody post-punk and lo-fi guitars mixed with big harmonies. Whitney Matheson of USA Today’s “Pop Candy Blog” said, “I've been listening to this album all week long and can't say enough good things about the band...  catchy pop to punk to rockabilly; no matter what genre they tackle, the result is always impressive.”

Accolades continued from KEXP, Consequence of Sound, RCRDLBL, PopMatters, Blurt and more. Emily Zemler at RCRD LBL called Art of Losses, “A terse collection of alt-pop numbers. The title track is a swaggering rocker that pairs grungy guitars with pensively mopey vocals, throwing back to ‘60s-style rock.”  Check out “Art of Losses” at RCRDLBL here.  Grab a taste of The Blakes live from their in-studio performance at KEXP here and stream Art of Losses in full here.

THE BLAKES TOUR DATES
Oct 17 - New York, NY - Bowery Electric - Tijuana Gift Shop CMJ Showcase – 11pm
Oct 20 - Brooklyn, NY - The Rock Shop - Hudson Whiskey Presents TGS CMJ Day Party – 6pm
Oct 22 - Philadelphia, PA - Ortlieb's Lounge
Oct 23 - Boston, MA - TT The Bear's
Oct 25 - Toronto, ONT - The Garrison
Oct 28 - Washington, DC - The Red Palace
Oct 31 - Chicago, IL - Schuba's

“The 12-track Art of Losses finds the band wandering into new territory as they fan out their sound past their post-punk origins... the more vast sound maximizes the trio’s potential like never before.”
– Amanda Koellner, Consequence of Sound

“This is another tremendous effort from the Seattle-based power trio. There’s a youthful exuberance that sidles up to an appreciation for the past and a sharp focus on staying themselves.”
 Steven Spoerl, PopMatters

“The best approach to the Blakes is simply to throw the disc, or switch, on. Which is far from a rough assignment.”
 Mary Leary, BLURT

“ Art of Losses opens the band's sound wide, expanding its garage-rock palette to include dreamy pop, driving synthesizer riffs and eerie vocal harmonies... the band absorbs its musical touchstones seamlessly, filtering them through its own unique sensibilities to create one of the more intriguing indie-rock albums in recent memory.”
– Sam Gnerre, LA Daily News

“From the jangling soul-rock of ‘Paralysis’ to the tambourine-dream, 60s-leaning melodies of ‘New Friends’, this is an album built on diversity and heart, reflection and acceptance.”
 Alyssa Coluccio, PureVolume

“Literate, dreamy indie pop songs, perfect for lazing away a day in the Seattle sun ... a series of cheery melodies, blankets of reverb, and waves of nostalgia.”
 Seattle Weekly

“The Blakes have managed to capture audiences with their new yet old sound. The Seattle natives, comprised of three talented gentlemen, contain many different styles in their music, ranging from electronic to honky tonk.”
 Jonny Cohn, The Aquarian

Art of Losses... moves from The Dandy Warhols’ to Modest Mouse and David Bowie-like vocals.  The album is inescapable, offering something for every rock genre all the way down to my favorite track (surely to be on our year end lists) titled ‘Sea Fishing (Slow It Down)’.”
 Music Under Fire

“A wide spectrum alt rock/garage pop thesis... stripped to the basics rock, with crunchy guitars and powerpop vocals, both of which honor their '60s influences without mimicking them -- from swampy, bluesy and booze-soaked to dreamy and melodic... one of the country's finer bands.”
