Baltimore, MD's DEEP SLEEP are about to
embark on a two week tour for a handful of lucky East Coast and Midwest cities
beginning April 21st (tour dates below). 2011 saw the release of
Deep Sleep's first LP, Turn Me Off (on Grave
Mistake Records, mastered by Stephen Egerton) as well as the
band's first European tour. Despite their guitarist moving to the other
side of the country at the end of last year, the band is staying as productive
as distance will allow and have a handful of new songs they will be
recording this month for a new record.
Formed in 2005, Deep Sleep has remained quite active over the past six and a half years, releasing three 7" EP's (2006's You're Screwed, 2008's Manic Euphoria, and 2009's Paranoid Futures), a 21-song singles collection CD (2009's Three Things at Once), and a ten song full length LP/CD (2011's Turn Me Off), all of which are still available from Grave Mistake Records. Each release has found the band branching into new punk territory, as Deep Sleep has been steadily morphing into an unclassifiable superhuman mutant; feeding off of a steady diet of All, Descendents, and other assorted goodies from the SST / CRUZ catalogs, and leaving a trail of destruction and fast food wrappers in it's wake. Turn Me Off found Deep Sleep's sound growing and expanding in every direction; the fast songs are faster, the hooks throughout are catchier than ever; each of the ten tracks on the LP are defined with guitarist Nick Vance's distinctive guitar blitzkreig, interlaced with bassist Mike Stearns and drummer Darick Sater's exhilarating rhythm section, while vocalist Tony Pence's lyrics drenched in depression, isolation, frustration, and insanity keep you uncomfortably intrigued.
