CAKE PERFORMS ON eTOWN IN SUPPORT OF ELWHA DAM REMOVAL PROJECT
SEGMENT TO AIR NATIONALLY BEGINNING NOVEMBER 16
 CAKE
CAKE has returned to eTown in order to celebrate the Elwha Dam Removal Project. Taped in Port Angeles, WA as part of a special "on the road" triple-bill, the performance was held September 17 in conjunction with Celebrate Elwha! - a multi-day event centered around the start of the nation's largest dam removal project. CAKE was also joined on stage by musical virtuoso Danny Barnes and singer/songwriter Eliza Gilkyson.

The concert will broadcast nationally on NPR affiliates, with Part 1 airing from November 16-22, and Part 2 from November 23-29. Listen to the concert in its entirety here: http://bit.ly/tdFkDd. Hosts Nick & Helen Forster are celebrating the 20th anniversary of the environmentally conscious music variety program they founded in Boulder, CO in 1991. eTown has served as a voice for environmental responsibility long before "green" became a household word.

CAKE has always used their success to bring attention to crucial social and environmental issues. The band's latest recording, the widely successful Showroom of Compassion, not only reflects eTown's environmental aesthetic in that it was recorded in the band's own solar-powered studio, but also eTown's DIY approach to creating content; the album was self-produced and released on the band's own label, Upbeat Records.

When it comes to the environment, CAKE is constantly encouraging people to participate in the growth of their local communities, to make a difference in their own backyard with an emphasis on long-term solutions that extend beyond writing a check. In addition to the solar-powered studio they built in 2008 (which you can learn more about here:http://www.cakemusic.com/solar), the band encourages concert-goers to carpool to their shows and have even created an outlet for fans to find shared rides on their website:http://www.cakemusic.com/car/. Five years ago, they began a tradition of gifting a tree sapling to a lucky audience member at each tour stop. After a night-long selection process, a concert attendee is bestowed with the seedling after confirming and promising to plant the tree, care for it and allow it to live a long and healthy life. Many audience members submit photos of their trees after the concert here:

In addition, CAKE can now add bookmaking to their list of accomplishments. "Bound Away" is a limited edition, handmade book created in partnership with BANDmade Books. The band was heavily involved in all aspects of the book's production, from conception to construction. Recycled and reclaimed materials are used throughout the book, including the band's old 100% cotton t-shirts and denim jeans to create the handmade paper and book covers. From cover to cover, each of the 24 illustrated pages quietly echoes the band's individuality, creativity and intrinsic values. You can learn more about the process of making the book here:

The album continues to receive acclaim with recent appearances onNPR's "All Things Considered" as well as two appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Lenoand Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and performances on ConanLate Night with Jimmy Fallon, Lopez Tonight and The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.
