Francis Harris Premieres
Brooklyn-based Francis Harris recently announced Leland, his forthcoming full length album set for release February 7th 2012 on Scissor & Thread . The album and project is a very personal one, as Harris composed the album as a requiem for his father. It's poignant, reflective, and moving, providing enough of a contrast to his dance alias Adultnapper that allowed Harris to release the album under his actual name (his first release as such in many years). The first single "Lostfound" and it's accompanying remix by Matthew Herbert were recently premiered on Pitchfork, and now the moody video counterpart, directed by France's Lisa Boostani, premieres via Yours Truly.
Like Adultnapper, the dancefloor friendly micro-rhythms are intact here with the Francis Harris material, but much different at the same time as Harris injects live cellos, trumpet, piano, guitar and vocals throughout, creating a cohesive and captivating listen that is wholly unique. Leland was mastered by Joe Lambert (Washed Out, Animal Collective, Dirty Projectors, etc). Harris has also announced a string of live dates under his Adultnapper alias, listed below, with plans for an extended North American tour in 2012.

Scissor & Thread is a new Brooklyn-based imprint that is a collaboration between DJ/Producer Francis Harris aka Adultnapper, Shawn Schwartz (Halcyon), Michael Scott (owner of long running Atlanta-based underground house label Soco Audio), and Parisian DJ/Producer Anthony Collins. Despite it's roots in underground dance music, and being fronted by two well established artists in the field, Scissor & Thread exists to help define the difference between a dance imprint and an indie label , the latter which is proudly call itself. More material is forthcoming from their tight knit circle of producers, musicians, etc., under new aliases created specifically for use on Scissor & Thread. In a way, this will be providing clean slates and wider creative possibilities, and will be creating a home for more expansive and ambitious ideas that stretch beyond the confines of the club. Harris has already been doing this beyond Adultnapper, providing scores for New York-based visual artist Matthew Weinstein.
The first single "Lostfound," which features Norwegian singer Gry and trumpet by Greg Paulus of No Regular Play, as well as Matthew Herbert's Let Yourself Go Remix, where Herbert's focus is square on the dancefloor, working a hook around a playful sprinkling of his signature sample edits before unloading entirely with a heavy organ groove that takes the tune into sublime territory. The limited 12" is available for purchase here.
