Pop Montreal Releases Full Lineup Arcade Fire Bring Charity B-Ball Game, Bicycle Symphony to POP Montreal   Celebrates 10th Anniversary

Montreal, August 31st, 2011 - It's the big day we are releasing our full program. Hold tight cause it's gonna be a wild ride! The full POP Montreal line-up is now available on our website and in our printed program. Featuring over 400 bands there is a tonne to choose from. Here are a few special events and highlights that have not been announced until right now.

On September 23rd and 24th Breakglass Studio will host a special recording series featuring Moonface and Plants and Animals, while across town at Hohm (4445 St-Laurent) the founder and curator of Soundway Records, Miles Cleret, will be DJ-ing rare tropical funk with local homeboy Andy Williams.

From September 21st to the 23rd we are doing a special series with Bande à Part at Quai des Brumes featuring some of the best emerging local talent including Ponctuation.Vera, Capitaine Soldat and Folly and the Hunter. Playing for the first time in 10 years, Montreal garage rock legends Les Sexareenos will be headlining our late night space Église POP Little Burgundy (425 Beaubien E) on September 24th while on September 25th turntable legend DJ Q Bert will be performing at Sala Rossa. Other exciting additions to the line-up include Random Recipe who will be performing on the Ubisoft Rooftop on September 24th,Krista Muir, El Hijo de la Cumbia from Argentina, Mozart's Sister, Sleep Over, Jahnice+, Jef Barbara, Jésuslesfilles, Kim Ann Foxman (best known as the singer from Hercules & Love Affair), Andrew W.K in Laval (!), Molly Sweeney and Nive Nielsen & The Deer Children. We are also happy to announce the inclusion of Yves Lambert, Katie Moore, Joe Cobden, Narcy and Hanako Hoshimi Caines as featured stars of The Season, A Musical by Socalled. POP Montreal is very happy to be working with Win Butler of the Arcade Fire and Dexter John of DJ Sports Club to bring you our first annual POP vs JOCK CHARITY BASKETBALL GAME. All proceeds from this game will go towards DJ Sports Club, a non-profit charity organization in Montreal's South-West borough that offers programs in sports and education to youth between 7 and 17 years of age. The game will feature the ferocious Butler brothers leading a team of musicians (team POP) against an all-star team comprised of standout players from the current and graduate McGill Redman and Concordia Stingers (team JOCK). Guests will include NBA veteran Matt Bonner of the San Antonio Spurs andChris Tomson of Vampire Weekend, as well as many other surprise appearances! Régine Chassagne will be playing the organ to keep the festive spirit alive and the half time show will feature performances by Kid Koala, along with a world premiere bicycle symphony called DRONES composed by Richard Reed Parry of the Arcade Fire. If you’re digging our surprises, here’s another for you: Art POP is proud to present an exclusive installation by artist Marcel Dzama who will be returning to Montreal after his exhibitions at the Musée d’Art Contemporain, The David Zwirner Gallery (NYC) and the Tate Modern (London). The internationally renowned Canadian artist will be making his first appearance at POP Montreal to present a selection of films, including the World Premiere of Death Disco Dance and the Canadian Premiere of A Game of Chess. The selection will run looped from Wednesday to Sunday at the POP Quarters. On September 23rd at 5pm join us for a live musical accompaniment of the films by surprise guests, followed by a Q&A with Marcel Dzama moderated by Mark Lanctôt.

Art POP will also be presenting two super exhibits. The first, And No One Was Around, taking place at The SAT, features new-media focused efforts by Mtl Sound Map, Fruit Machine, Hercules Taxidermy, BOCA Gallery. The second, Did It Make a Sound, includes traditional media works by Julie Doucet, Connor Willumsen, Edward Maloney, Anna Edell, Adam Wilcox, Therese Mastroiacovo, Richmond Lam and Richard Kerramongst others!

Art POP and the Symposium will co-present the Canadian Premiere of The Raincoats art exhibit running September 24th and 25th at the POP Quarters as well as a conversation with the artists on September 24, both co-presented by Galerie la Centrale Powerhouse. The Symposium is fully utilizing the strong relationship POP holds with the artistic community; highlights include Merrill Garbus' vocal workshop, Gary Lucas' master class and Captain Beefheart Symposium, Tim Hecker in conversation with Grimes, Art Spiegelman's What the %&*! Happened to Comics? (SBC Gallery of Contemporary Art's fundraiser) Hisham Mayet's screening, R Stevie Moore, Joe Bataan and a Ponderosa Stomp presentation. The Symposium will also hold several not-to be missed panels, such as a funny satirical look at industry “how-to” All the Mistakes You Can Make, a special afternoon with McGill University on creative economy, a music supervision workshop and much more!

On the Film POP side, there are over 14 feature films, 2 live events and 6 shorts, most of which are Canadian and Quebec premieres, with several notable guests in attendance. Join us for the alternately inspiring and tragic story Phil Ochs: There But for Fortune. Other notable screenings include the Canadian premiere of photographer Laurel Nakadate’s The Wolf Knife curated by Melora Koepke, and Bloodied but Unbowed: The Birth of Vancouver Punk Rock 1977-82 followed by a Q&A with filmmaker Susanne Tabata and DOA bass player Randy Rampage. The diverse musical-themed film programming continues with Upside Down: the Creation Records Story (featuring The Jesus and Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, Oasis and more), Oil City Confidential, PJ Harvey: Let England Shake and Color Me Obsessed, a film about the Replacements. Film POP is also curating the first-ever Canadian exhibit by Nick Blinko, the frontman for seminal UK anarcho-punk band Rudimentary Peni.

Last but not least, Montreal’s favourite fashion show, craft fair and record fair are back to dazzle everyone’s eyes, ears and taste buds. Kicking off the festival is the 5th annualFashion POP competition on September 21st at POP Église Little Burgundy. The winner, selected by a panel of industry judges, will receive a $1000 cash prize, a 4-page editorial in WORN Fashion Journal and more! On September 24th and 25th Puces POP returns to the St-Michael Church on St-Viateur from 11am to 6pm with 70 not-to-be-missed artisans, while the Record Fair takes over the lower level of the Ukrainian Federation, featuring local labels and vinyl collectors.
