“Their
infectiously poppy self-titled EP is a teaser to their frenetic
live shows, where Cupcakes, clad in Chuck Taylors and spandex
dresses, stands to bang her drum kit and puts down her sticks
to catalyze dance parties in front of the stage.” - PASTE
“The EP is perfect, and certainly gives this original duo the firepower they’ll need to change Hank & Cupcakes from New York’s favorite import into its proudest export.” - Flavorpill HANK & CUPCAKES ANNOUNCE TOUR DATES SUPPORTING JENNY OWEN YOUNGS Perform Live for Paste Magazine |

Brooklyn,
NY –
Hot off nearly a month long stay in Europe working on a new
album, Brooklyn sexy-pop duo HANK & CUPCAKES are
back in the States and eager to hit the ground running. Kicking
off the band’s Fall tour with two dates at the Utica
Music Fest in Utica, NY on September 15 and September 16,
the two and a half week tour includes a number of dates supporting
Jenny Owen Youngs, as well as a handful of
one off shows, wrapping with a hometown show at Mercury
Lounge on October 8.
Though
it may seem like an odd pairing, Hank & Cupcakes’
infectious music and energetic live show has won over a variety
of audiences, including crowds at large festivals such as the
CMJ Music Marathon, The Roots Picnic, Bamboozle
and the SXSW Music Conference. “Our sound
is different but people who love good music will get a taste
of two very different bands that rarely get on the same stage,”
says drummer/vocalist Cupcakes and bassist
Hank in a joint statement.“So we're hoping
this will be a double treat both for us and the audience.”
Paste Magazine is currently featuring the band’s
highly energetic, unique live performance as part of their Paste
Sessions, which fans can view here: http://bit.ly/HCpaste
After playing only a handful of shows since June, Hank &
Cupcakes are itching to get on the road and play some new material.
“We are especially excited about this tour since we're
freshly back from an amazing experience in the studio and can't
wait to try out all the new songs live!,” the band says.
The danceable duo spent the month of August in Berlin recording
their full-length debut with producer Ludwig Böss
(Band Of Horses) at the legendary Hansa
Studios (David Bowie, R.E.M, Nick Cave, KT
Tunsell, Depeche Mode, Iggy Pop). The upcoming full-length
is the follow up to the band’s self-titled EP, which features
tight, pumping jams that earned the band praise from MTV
(“fresh new artist”), Paste,
URB Magazine, Time Out New York, Village Voice,
New York Post, and a number of other outlets.
While Huffington Post named the band
one of their 15 Musical Acts Positioned to Break Out
in 2011 and commented, "The most fun you will
have listening to any band in the new year - guaranteed! The
Brooklyn duo are a two person Gogol Bordello and they will have
you stomping across the aisles.” The band’s latest
single“Hit” climbed the Specialty
and college radio charts this summer, with airplay on over 90
stations across the country, and spawned a NSFW video that recently
premiered on Huffington Post: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jon-chattman/hank-cupcakes-hit-video_b_918750.html.
Formed in Tel Aviv (where vocalist Cupcakes landed after growing
up in Melbourne, AUS) just prior to moving to Cuba for six months
of musical exploration, the duo ended up in Williamsburg, Brooklyn
nearly two years ago. “The music, the streets, the energy,
the electricity and the nonstop movement of NYC is a constant
inspiration and driving force to what we are doing,” said
Cupcakes. “We feel we can't just sit still here and have
the urge to be in constant musical motion.”
