Fall Tour Starts This Friday in Boston

 

  

ATO Records/Prawn Songs is excited to announce that the new Primus album Green Naugahyde debuted at #15 on the Billboard Top 200. Green Naugahyde, Primus' first studio album in 11 years, was released on  September 13. This is the highest chart placement for the band in 16 years, since the release of Tales From the Punchbowl.

Rolling Stone praised the new album, saying "Claypool, guitarist Larry LaLonde and drummer Jay Lane are a tight knottyrhythm team, and their propulsion under the comic vocals in "Tragedy's a'Comin' " and in the manic marching jam "Last Salmon Man" is no monkey business." Relix applauded the band's return to form, exclaiming "As accessible as it is willfully in-your-face, this is vintage Primus." USA Today hailed "Fans of the bass-heavy trio will rejoice in its only full-length album since 1999. The slap-funk grooves hark back to the band's 1990 debut, Fizzle Fry, particularly with the return of original drummer Jay Lane, and the dark side of 'Jilly's on Smack' and 'Tragedy's a' Comin'' cuts through the usual antic humor."

  

This Friday, September 23rd, Primus will head out on a fall tour. An Evening with Primus, featuring two full sets, begins Friday in Boston, makes its way west, and ends on October 29th as part of the Oddity Faire at the Greek Theatre in Berkley, CA. Tickets are currently on sale.

  

Green Naugahyde was produced and engineered by Les Claypool in his personal studio, Rancho Relaxo, in Northern California, and features Claypool, long-time guitarist Larry LaLonde and drummer Jay Lane. Lane was in an early lineup of the band, and was also in Sausage, a 1994 reunion of the 1988 Primus lineup. Green Naugahyde expands on Primus' incomparable sound and also sees them bringing it into the next millennium. It is a cerebral and complex album that, like all of the band's output, is teeming with the band's signature blend of whimsy and underlying darkness.

  

For the past 27 years, Primus have followed in the footsteps of boundary-pushing artists like Frank Zappa and Pink Floyd to create some of the most original and inventive music in existence. Green Naugahyde is a Primus record with all of the magic and mystery that phrase entails-and while no one can say for sure what the future will hold in store for the band, the most important thing is that the album exists and will inevitably hold its own in the band's impressive cannon of music.
