Abandoned
Pools release their long-awaited third album, Sublime
Currency TODAY via Tooth & Nail Records.
Sublime Currency is the culmination of the eleven-year
journey of Tommy Walter, bassist and co-founder of the critically
acclaimed band eels.
The band has slowly been leaking the music leading to the
release. Alternative
Press exlusively premiered the title trackand RCRDLBL offered
a free dowload of another track from the highly anticipated
album. ’Unrehearsed’ is thoughtful, emotive rock that finds
singer Tommy Walter crooning over a hushed instrumental landscape,” attests
Emily Zemler at RCRDLBL. “Basically, if you've been a fan in
the past, this is a welcome return.”
Last week CMJ premiered
"sweet and soft pop" track "Behemoth" along
with a Q&A with Walter. Now it's time for the real deal and the
good folks at Spinner are
hosting a FULL CD LISTENING PARTY for Sublime Currency.
Check out the albumhere and pick
up a copy at iTunes, which includes an exclusive acoustic
version of “Sublime Currency.”
AP have a few LA area shows coming up surrounding the album
release, starting TONIGHT when Tommy plays solo at Hotel Cafe.
The official CD RELEASE PARTY is Saturday, September 15 at THE ROXY in
Hollywood and the band hit the stage again on Sept 27 at The Wire
in Upland.
Sublime Currency is the follow up to Abandoned Pools’ 2005 release Armed to the Teeth, a disc that revealed a songwriter grappling with confusion and darkness. Now, Tommy has answered his own questions, finding solace in his faith and recent marriage.
“A sublimely polished album that figures to not only
have the emo kids swooning but that, owing to Walter’s open-hearted
confrontations with his own struggles, adults will find relatable as well. As
returns go, Abandoned Pools’ is at least brave, if not happy.”
- BuzzBandsLA
