About the Torche / Part Chimp Split EP:
Euphoric rockers Part Chimp return to the US for the last time
this fall with their final recordings in hand, appearing on a split
release and east coast tour supporting US noise merchants Torche.
Having supported their previous studio albums - "Thriller" (2009),
"Chart Pimp" (2003) and "I Am Come" (2005) - with extensive, worldwide
touring through Japan, North America and Europe, their new release is
guaranteed to satisfy their die-hard following and curious first-timers
alike.
Did we mention that this is the final time that Yanks can see these Brits? Well, it is.
Signed to Mogwais Rock Action label ten years ago, the Camberwell crew have recruited bassist Joe Mclaughlin
(Kling Klang, The Left Hand, Plectrum) to add even more texture to
their dense, pervading noise that doesnt betray their roots as a
traditional rock band. Fans of everyone from Black Sabbath and MC5 to TAD, Sonic Youth, The Melvins and Harvey Milk
stand to be impressed by the band's suffocating but liberating vibe
that sounds brain-shakingly loud regardless where the volume dial is
turned on your stereo.
Imagine a primordial swamp of pre-grunge British noise / rock, when
Britain pre-empted grunge... believe it, it is true... flannel shirts?
Pah... were talking skinny faded black jeans with knees worn out,
grubby t-shirts with crap sloganeering, and knackered shitkicking
boots...
A band with a definite history, Part Chimp were formed following the dissolution of cult underground rockers Ligament by vocalist and guitarist Tim Cedar and drummer John Hamilton adding Iain Hinchliffe,
purloined from legendary jock noise outfit Sawyer. Since their
inception in 2000, the Chimp have built up a reputation as a formidable
live act, blowing audiences away with a mix of sonic belligerence and
unashamed rock n roll showmanship.
Miami's sludge-pop heroes Torche are back following their latest
"Songs For Singles" release and co-headlining US tour w/ Big Business,
to bring their fans three new covers of legendary indie-rock icons Guided By Voices. Limited to 500 total copies pressed, the Part Chimp / Torche split 12" is definitely a rare treasure to beholden.
