FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LOS ANGELES, CA & PHNOM PENH, CAMBODIA (THURSDAY OCTOBER 6, 2011) - Cambodian and American rock band DENGUE FEVER (www.denguefevermusic.com)
announced today that they are confirmed to perform this November in
Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. Dubbed the “Electric Mekong Tour”, Dengue
Fever will return to Southeast Asia for their third tour since the
band’s formation.
Dengue Fever is touring with the
cooperation and support of the U.S. Department of State, U.S. embassies
in Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam and local promoter in Cambodia, Dickon
Verey, after receiving the prestigious Arts Envoy grant, designed to
share American Culture around the world. Previously, the band performed
in Cambodia and Vietnam, but this trip marks their debut in Laos.
“Through the U.S. Arts Envoy Program
of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the U.S. Department
of State is pleased to bring the Los Angeles-based band, Dengue Fever,
to tour Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia,” said the Bureau of Educational and
Cultural Affairs, the U.S. Department of State in a statement. “Sharing
American art and culture is one of the best ways to build bridges
between the United States and other countries. Dengue Fever’s dynamic
performances reviving 1960’s Cambodian rock provide a strong cultural
link between the U.S. and Southeast Asia.”
”This will be our third trip to
Cambodia since the band formed and our second with the help of the U.S.
Department of State and the U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh,” said Dengue
Fever Guitarist Zac Holtzman. “Obviously, the band’s roots are in Khmer
rock, so there is an immediate connection to our fans in Cambodia. But
getting the opportunity to perform in Vietnam for the second time and to
debut in Laos really makes us aware of just how far we’ve come and
where we want to go with this band.”
Details are still being worked out on
exact venues and locations of the tour but Dengue Fever are set to play
in Phnom Penh, Sihanoukville, Battambang and Siem Reap in Cambodia,
Hanoi in Vietnam and Vientiane in Laos.
In April of this year, Dengue Fever released their fourth full-length album, Cannibal Courtship
for Concord Music Group/Fantasy Records. The band has toured the United
States, France and England in support of the record. In fact, the band
was invited by The Kinks’ Ray Davies to perform at his 2011 Meltdown
Festival, which he curated, as well as making their sold-out Paris debut
and second Glastonbury performance. The band is currently confirming
tour dates in the U.S. and Europe for 2012.
Later this year, Dengue Fever will
launch their own record label and online store, for the purpose of
releasing their long out-of-print back catalog with additional bonus
tracks and new merchandise for fans. Currently, the band is sifting
through outtakes, live tracks, radio shows, alternative tracks and more
to expand their back catalog for digital and physical release.
Additional details on tour dates, events, band news and more will be announced shortly.
