“A disc jockey turned producer with roots in the British club scene might be expected to care about the beat and nothing more. Not James Lavelle, the producer behind UNKLE. He broods about the state of the heart and the state of the world, enlisting singers and songwriters as collaborators, and with the ominous songs UNKLE’s third album, War Stories: A Collection of Desert Songs, he has moved decisively toward rock. Now UNKLE is touring for the first time as a full band.”

British rock outfit UNKLE is preparing to launch their first ever North American tour as a live band this Thursday, October 18 at Webster Hall in NYC as part of CMJ. The two-week tour will bring the band to Toronto, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Las Vegas, during which UNKLE will release a new single with “Hold My Hand” on October 22 in the U.K. The song marks the second single from their critically acclaimed War Stories album (Surrender All), described by Mikael Wood of the Los Angeles Times as “stormy set of dark, synth-streaked psych-rock jams that carries a whiff of tomorrow while looking back to the stomping proto-metal of Black Sabbath and Blue Cheer” (7/11/07).
On “Hold My Hand,” frontman James Lavelle steps up for vocal duties, proving himself more than capable of the task at hand. The song sees UNKLE strike up a lolloping, menacing groove and turn it into a relentlessly ominous tale of wants, needs, obsessions and pursuit, while cranking up ‘the guitars to 11’ with a lorry load of dirty licks and staccato beats.
