Northern State Get Tegan & Sara US Fall Tour

The Onion (A.V. Club) - The group's defiantly loose new disc once again kicks it independent-style, with a sparkling new set that augments signature old-school flows and girlish good humor with electro and new-wave flourishes.

Entertainment Weekly A- : Northern State has crafted a legitimately trilling third album. It's an audacious leap forward, and one that should finally earn them the unimaginable: respect

Remix : “ It's an intriguing and smart blend of hip-hop and electro-rock”

Spin *** 3 Stars: Energetic political jams such as "Cold War" make it easy to forget that it's been three years since anyone heard from Le Tigre

Alternative Press *** 3 1/2 Stars: “The former partners in rhyme frequently drop the mics to explore everything from pointy-shoed new wave to soft flutter electro-rock...the results are unexpected and lethal”

Rolling Stone – “...the three add more singing and guitars here and come up with some genuine gems...”

Northern State are thrilled to announced that they will be joining Tegan & Sara on all North American fall tour dates. This month they will be touring Canada and making a stop at MTV Canada for an exclusive performance, and then returning to the US for all American Tegan and Sara tour dates as well. “Can I Keep This Pen?” out on Ipecac Recording has already achieved new heights of critical acclaim, and for this we are happy to bring you their debut video, “Better Already”, featured on Rolling Stone’s Hot List. (OMG! Just take a gander- unicorns, rainbows and laser beams ). Northern State has also signed a Japanese deal with Entak and 'Can I Keep This Pen?' will be released in Japan on Oct. 17, and exciting first for the girls! And if that’s not enough, the ladies have recently charted on Canadian Pop Charts.

Finally free of the Columbia/SONY machine, Northern State teamed up with producer Chuck Brody of Shitake Monkey (Wu Tang Clan, Yoko Ono etc.) and Adrock from the Beastie Boys and recorded an album for Ipecac Recordings. They pushed the limits in terms of what Northern State can sound like, with their classic old school hip hop sound weaving its way through a new electro-rock current. The ladies did an unprecedented amount of singing and were fortunate enough to have friends like Mr. Murray Hill, Kaki King, and Katie Cassidy stop by and play on the album. When it was finished, they named it “Can I Keep This Pen?”
