Lift the Veil on Tying the Knot with Michael Apted's MARRIED IN AMERICA 2

Acclaimed director Michael Apted (The World is Not Enough, Gorillas in the Mist) not only entertained, but also shocked audiences, as he held up a mirror to one of the oldest national institutions with the critically acclaimed documentary, Married in America. Now, five years have passed, and Apted is making good on his promise to revisit the couples in the second intimate installment about the ins-and-outs of marriage in the 21st century. In a DVD loaded with extras, including an interview with the director and casting interviews, MARRIED IN AMERICA 2 will be available on November 6 for $26.95srp, exclusively from Docurama®.

In 2001, Apted filmed the first installment of the Married in America series, which featured nine very different soon-to-be-married couples discussing their decision to get married, their views on sex, divorce and their expectations and dreams for the future. Drawing on his experience directing the internationally acclaimed 7 Up series (“Cinema’s longest-running and most fascinating experiment!”[1]), which tracked a group of British men and women across 49 years, Apted sought a cross-section of American marriages to best reflect the changing nature of the institution: women making more money than their husbands, divorcees re-marrying and blending their families, an increase in interfaith and bi-racial couples and the controversial brave new world of same-sex marriage.

In what can only be defined as one of the most realistic sociological experiments to ever to hit the small screen, Apted realized he was only scratching the surface as to what these diverse couples could possibly show the world about marriage. So, five years later, he and his camera have returned to explore how they’ve coped with the twists and turns of married life. Despite their cultural, geographical, and socio-economical differences, each of the couples -- regardless of age or sexual orientation – have faced similar challenges: the stresses of jobs, living situations, and in some cases, children. But, ultimately, how have they responded?

Heartfelt and riveting, MARRIED IN AMERICA 2, candidly lifts the veil on the institution of marriage and what compels people to tie the knot and stay together.
