Overkill Proves its Immortality

Bodog Music recording act Overkill will bring its legendary sound back to the forefront of the metal scene when it unleashes Immortalis on October 9. With its mix of old-school thrash with new-school flavor, including vocals by Randy Blithe on "Skull And Bones", Immortalis is one of the most anticipated metal albums of the year.

In support of Immortalis, Overkill will be headlining intimate clubs and theaters as it winds its way through the Midwest and East Coast. The tour, which started on October 3, included an album release show in the band's home state of New Jersey at the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville on October 6.

Bodog Music Founder Calvin Ayre is thrilled to announce that Immortalis reunites Overkill with Jonny and Marsha Zazula, previous owners of Megaforce Records, the label responsible for putting metal on the map and bringing Overkill's New Jersey thrash metal to the world. The Zazulas are now a part of the Bodog Music Team in the United States.

"We are having a blast about being back with Jonny and Marsha," says singer Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth. "It's a true melting together of the old-school philosophy! Immortalis will be the audible proof, as this is the most focused, cohesive record from the band in years. This album has bone-jarring crunch and devilish hooks, peppered with some flesh tearing speed. It's good to be back in hell."

Staying true to the thrash roots, but also expanding its sound, Immortalis finds the band as heavy as it has as ever been. A perfect example of this is "Skull and Bones," which blends Bobby Blitz's unmistakable voice with Randy Blithe's signature vocal style.

"For me to be asked to record with the legendary Overkill was a great honor indeed," Blithe says. "Overkill has the best attitude of any band we have ever toured with -- their work ethic humbles me. The session was great. I had a blast and I hate recording. Blitz and crew are a testament to how it should be done -- all guts, no bullshit, and attitude to spare. Anyone who wants to know how to be a real fucking band, pay attention to Overkill, then put up or shut up!"

The upcoming album and corresponding tour will feature Overkill's latest lineup, which along with Ellsworth, includes original bassist D.D. Verni, guitarists Derek "The Skull" Tailer and Dave Linsk, as well as the newest member to join the band, drummer Ron Lipnicki.

Since forming in 1980, Overkill has put out over 20 albums. Overkill released three albums on Megaforce Records, including 1991's quintessential Horroscope, before making the jump to Atlantic Records and solidifying itself as one of the best metal bands of all time. In the past few years, the band has released such gems as Killbox 13 (2003) and ReliXIV (2005). There are few names as well-respected as Overkill, and with the resurgence of metal in the music word, this band is poised to return to the top.
