Deep Elm Records to release new LP from The Dandelion War 9/12

The Dandelion War put reverb on everything. The indie rock quintet from Oakland, California formed in 2008 after connecting through Craigslist. With band members from diverse backgrounds and nationalities, the group’s sound is influenced by musical styles including ambient, shoegaze, post-rock, and electronic.

Of the their 2010 debut full-length, Kirsty Evans of East Bay Express said, “Geometries and Orchids is a lovely little slice of indie rock beauty. Vocals are pretty, guitars are jangly, rhythm section is solid. There are quite a few vocal-free spaces, which gives it an oddly open, airy feeling that resonates in the vocal style. It's floating-on-a-cloud music.” Ourstage had this to say of the release, “…the five-piece band creates a gyre of piano, drums, guitar and bass that falls somewhere between Sigur Rós and My Morning Jacket.”
The past two years have been spent growing a fan base beyond the San Francisco Bay Area and touring up and down the west coast. The Dandelion War has opened for Asobi Seksu, Cymbals Eat Guitars, and Imagine Dragons.

The band’s follow-up album, We Were Always Loyal to Lost Causes, was recorded during the early part of 2012 at Castle Ultimate Studios in Oakland with Aaron Hellam, who also worked on the band’s first release. We Were Always Loyal to Lost Causes will be released on September 12, 2012 on Deep Elm Records.

Jeff Kay (guitar/keyboard) on We Were Always Loyal to Lost Causes:
“A lot of the songwriting started with just an interesting tone (usually synth or guitar). If we found something we liked, we'd just start layering instruments on top of it and eventually add more parts. In general, it's much more electronic than anything we've done previously. Making this album was a long, slow process. We intentionally went into the studio with unanswered questions about some of the songs. The songs themselves tend to be a little slower and quieter than the stuff we’ve done in the past. We sort of grew out of the stereotypical post-rock formula - with every song a slow build-up into a total rock-out. These songs show a lot more subtlety, relying on melody, lyrics, and instrumentation to convey an emotion.”
