2008 PLUG INDEPENDENT MUSIC AWARDS

ANNOUNCE DETAILS ON PLUG CITY HIGHLIGHTS TOUR
LAUNCHING DECEMBER 28 IN MIAMI

The PLUG INDEPENDENT MUSIC AWARDS--founded to highlight outstanding accomplishments within the independent music community—have announced details for the first date of the PLUG City Highlights Tour (CHT) scheduled for Friday, December 28, at Studio A (60 NE St.) in Miami, FL. The evening's line up, curated by Miami's indie music doyenne Lauren "Lolo" Reskin of Sweat Records fame, highlights the best of the local Miami independent music scene and features a farewell show from headliner Avenue D, performances from Otto Von Schirach, the Jacuzzi Boys and Jose El Rey, Jaylyn Coffin from OurStage.com, plus a DJ set from the legendary Arthur Baker. Tickets are $10 ($12 day of) and are available now online through www.studioamiami.com and at Sweat Records (5501 NE 2nd Ave., Miami). This is an 18+ age show.

The PLUG City Highlights Tour teams with top promoters and tastemakers in markets throughout North America to showcase local talent and celebrate regional music scenes. PLUG helps to curate all local shows highlighting the best up-and-coming bands, artists, filmmakers, fashion designers, ‘zines and more in each participating city. The mission of these events is to give an outlet to the thousands of music fans whose voices aren't regularly heard, but whose own local indie music scenes are vibrant and established. The tour will hit various markets throughout the country every six weeks, with the next scheduled for Chicago, leading up to the PLUG Independent Music Awards & Concert at Terminal 5 in New York City March 6.

This year PLUG is partnering with OurStage.com, the only purely democratic online competition where the fans decide who’s the best in emerging music, film and video, to provide fresh new talent to both its city tours and its Award show in NYC in 2008. Local Contests: Bands from the region surrounding each City Highlights show are invited to register at OurStage.com and upload up to two songs to the site in the designated City Highlights channel (e.g. PLUG Miami). Bands then can invite their fans to help select the local winner via a unique 100% democratic judging process on OurStage that cannot be gamed or rigged. The winner secures a spot to perform at the local PLUG City Highlights show and becomes eligible contestant for the national contest. The OurStage.com winner from the PLUG Miami contest, which ran from November 1st to November 30th on OurStage, is Jaylyn Coffin, a quirky 21 year-old from the Florida Keys. National Contest: PLUG and OurStage have opened up a joint contest channel dubbed PLUG Awards 2008, which can be accessed from http://www.ourstage.com/go/plug08. Bands from around the country can register, upload, and compete to win a spot to perform at the PLUG Independent Music Awards show in March.

The PLUG Independent Music Awards have also partnered with OurStage.com to raise money and awareness for the Grameen Foundation’s micro-financing cause. For each PLUG voter or fan who registers for the OurStage.com community, OurStage will donate $2.00 to the Grameen Foundation’s unique fight to end poverty. Fans interested in joining the Plug/OurStage donation campaign should visit http://www.ourstage.com/go/grameen.
