The First Annual Hip Hop Karaoke Championship

Friday, January 25

Daft Punk vs. Kanye? Spank Rock vs. Bjork? Hip-hop artists are invading every musical genre, and we couldn’t be more excited! It’s time we all embrace our inner rapper… outside of the shower. Hip Hop Karaoke has been going strong for nearly three years in New York's Knitting Factory, and we are taking the packed monthly event to the next level, the ultimate challenge, the CHAMPIONSHIP. This is NOT "Ice Ice Baby" over a fake beat in the back of a bar. There are no bouncing balls or cheesy screens. What you are going to witness at The Highline Ballroom on Friday, January 25, 2008 is going to kick in the door and make your booty bounce. Twelve of Hip Hop Karaoke’s best performers will be whipping out their flyest moves, performing hip-hop classics over original instrumentals for cash prizes to a diverse, enthusiastic crowd. This event is ages 16 and up and advance tickets are $12, $15 day of show. Get a preview of the event this Friday, November 2, 2007, at Knitting Factory at 11pm.

For the Championship, the organizers have hand-picked a dozen performers to rock their favorite tracks from Hip Hop Karaoke’s eclectic song list of nearly 300 classic and current hip-hop songs. Over the course of three rounds, one participant will emerge as Hip Hop Karaoke Champion.

Started in December 2004, Hip Hop Karaoke has given thousands of people the opportunity to witness, and participate in, this unique celebration of hip-hop. Hip Hop Karaoke has been visited by such luminaries as Jeru the Damaja, Rhymefest and Big Daddy Kane (among many others) and has spawned affiliates all over the globe. Everyone from XXL to Spin to Village Voice to New York Magazine has sung Hip Hop Karaoke's praises, and one look makes it easy to see why it's New York's most popular hip-hop event.
