Mount Clemens 32nd Annual Santa Parade Welcomes Macomb County and Beyond on Friday November 23rd

MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. – Families will want to make Mount Clemens their first post-Thanksgiving stop. The City will be hosting the 32nd Annual Macomb County Santa Parade, presented by the City of Mount Clemens. Over 90 units will be in this year’s parade, which steps off at 10 AM on Friday November 23, 2007.

The Santa Parade route begins in Downtown Mount Clemens on Main St. at Church St. and it runs north over six blocks to Clinton St. Portable restrooms and announcers are stationed along the entire parade route. Santa is expected to arrive at the final viewing stand at 11:30 AM, where the Mayor will present him with the key to the city.

Brigadier General Michael Peplinski, Commander of the 127th Wing, Selfridge Air National Guard Base, will be this year’s Grand Marshall. Mount Clemens is proud of its rich 90 year connection with Selfridge Air National Guard Base, and in 2007, the parade is also honoring the 60th anniversary of the founding of the U.S. Air Force.

This parade has become a Macomb County tradition, and this year, its name has been broadened to reflect its county-wide status and to recognize participants from surrounding communities. The Macomb County Santa Parade is the county’s only holiday parade held on Thanksgiving weekend.

Five marching bands will be participating this year, including the Utica and Mount Clemens high school marching bands. Floats from surrounding townships including Clinton, Harrison and Shelby will also be participating. The parade will last approximately 1 ½ hours.

Dupont Corporation is the parade’s Presenting Sponsor. Other major sponsors include Break thru Medical, Labelle Electric, The Macomb Daily, the City of Mount Clemens, the Mount Clemens Downtown Development Authority, Powder Cote II, and Rizzo Services. This year has seen a significant increase in the number of sponsors from years past at all sponsorship levels.

The parade is produced by a cadre of volunteers, but more day-of volunteers are still needed! After the 2006 parade was almost cancelled due to lack of funding and volunteers, Mount Clemens Mayor Dempsey led the effort to rescue this tradition, and the mayor is once again organizing this year’s effort.
