Shalini, formerly of San Francisco’s Vinyl Devotion, has been recording solo albums for the past few years and November 9th marks the release of her third solo album, The Surface and the Shine (Electric Devil). You can really hear all of Shalini’s influences on this one – especially power pop icons like Mitch Easter, Cheap Trick, and the Go-Gos. TSATS is definitely Shalini’s most mature and cosmic album to date, but still retains that thread of fun that runs through her previous material. There are even guest appearances from Mitch Easter (Let’s Active), Jane Francis (Velvet), and Paul Chastain (Velvet Crush). Definitely a contender for power pop album of the year.
