JACKSONVILLE SYMPHONY ASSOCIATION CANCELS UPCOMING CONCERTS DUE TO IMPASSE IN UNION CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS

Jacksonville, Fla. – November 20, 2007 – The Jacksonville Symphony Association announces the cancellation of its Music of The Eagles performance, which was scheduled to occur Sunday, November 25. This performance has been rescheduled for June 7, 2008. In addition, the Association announces the cancellation of its Masterworks performances, which were scheduled for November 29, 30 and December 1.

The Jacksonville Symphony Association and the Musicians’ Union have been meeting since the beginning of September to negotiate terms of a new contract. “We had no choice but to cancel after the Union rejected our request yesterday to resume negotiations,” said Jacksonville Symphony Association Executive Director Alan Hopper.

“The Association is committed to reaching a responsible agreement that ensures the financial stability of our orchestra for the future. The contract with the Musicians’ Union must reflect the Association’s and the community’s current economic realities,” said Hopper.

The Symphony Association is asking Music of The Eagles ticket holders to retain their tickets until they receive new tickets for the rescheduled date. Although every effort will be made to reschedule the Masterworks performances, ticket holders will be able to exchange their tickets for a future JSO performance.

A letter outlining options is being mailed to all ticket holders for these events. No concerts after December 2 have been cancelled.

Patrons can receive the latest information on performance cancellations by calling the Symphony’s ticket holder hotline (904) 354-5547 or by logging on to jaxsymphony.org.
