Returning to the U.S. For a Full Tour
Following their Sold Out Spring Dates
"Heavier, dirtier and more sinister than the Sneaker Pimps' listener-friendly sounds, The Alternative is almost industrial without the excessive noise. Taking the buzzes from that genre and mixing them with electro elements, orchestral washes and Corner's dangerous delivery makes for a tempting mix." - Remix Magazine
"IAMX is living in Berlin these days, and you can hear that city bleeding through any number of the more dramatic moments on The Alternative... chillingly Bowie-esque." - Alternative Press
"Just listening to The Alternative, you can't help but think of highbrow art; think Marlene Dietrich on Ecstacy out for a night of cabaret." - Venice
"[The Alternative] is a wonderfully atmospheric album, dark without being abrasive, and the whole thing builds and ebbs like a good DJ set. This is a catchy, addictive slice of electropop." - Blogcritics
It takes a ballsy artist to tour the US without a planned American release of an album and without label support. It takes an even ballsier audience to sell-out every show on that same tour. A UK artist that's based in Berlin, IAMX did just that earlier this Spring. Kicking off their US onslaught with a much-buzzed about show at SxSW, IAMX proceeded to follow that with sold out shows in Los Angeles, NYC, Chicago, San Francisco, and Las Vegas, sneaking up on the US and packing in venues with their nervy leftfield electro, or the self-coined "glam noir". "The beauty of that tour was witnessing the power of word of mouth through the internet," says Chris Corner (who is also the mastermind behind Sneaker Pimps) about how the tour reached their rabid fanbase. "There wasn't an album release and no hype. It's so refreshing to work without the chains of industry bullshit and still be able to reach people. I was completely blown away by the spirit and attitude of the audience. There is a deep affinity and that makes us very hungry for more."
And more, he will have. IAMX have announced a full US tour that kicks off at North Star in Philadelphia in October 15 and circles around both coasts, wrapping up at NYC's Bowery Ballroom on November 14.
IAMX is a full-on aural and visual attack with the dynamic and inimitable Chris Corner leading the charge. The European marketplace has already gone berzerk for their blend of dramatic synth-rock, darkness-infused pop, and intricately-constructed indie dance and IAMX has been headlining festivals overseas in Brussels, Berlin, Russia, etc. and supporting (and sometimes overtaking) such stalwarts as Placebo, Franz Ferdinand, and The Cardigans. The allure of the US though is intriguing to Chris. "I am looking forward to the culture shocks," he says with a smirk. "The last time I was in Salt Lake City, someone threatened to shoot me in the face with their shot gun for wearing high heels. Hopefully something a bit more exciting will happen this time."
IAMX... it's just beginning...
