Performing in Seattle and Portland This Month
As two men hailing from world-renowned Zimbabwean music lineage, Hussein Kalonji, (whose father was Raymond "Braynck" Kalonji, a world-renowned Congolese guitar legend) and Tendai “Baba” Maraire (whose father was Abraham Dumisani Mariare, who initiated the Zimbabwean music scene in the Pacific Northwest) found it was inevitable that they would eventually start playing music together.
A few years ago they began to blend their two areas of expertise, hip-hop and African music, and they continued to record and develop the sound that would later become "Chimurenga Renaissance". Mixed by Erik Blood, their new album riZe vadZimu riZe (released March 25th) also features Palaceer Lazaro, Mall Saint, M1 of Dead Prez, and THEESatisfaction.
In their new video for “The B.A.D. Is So Good”, watch HERE as a young father hustles to do right by his family. Plus, Seattle and Portland fans also have the opportunity to see Chimurenga Renaissance live at the end of this month; head below for more details.
