"This record couldn't have been more self-reflective or personal if I had tried," said Kibby. "I took many cues from Prince, Donna Summer and countless films to hopefully impart a deeply moving and almost visual experience for people when they listen."
The album's undeniable lead single "They Don't Know" debuted last fall via Gorilla vs. Bear and was followed by the premiere of "Prague" via Pitchfork, leading to early praise from Stereogum ("sugary melodic sensibility"), Consequence of Sound ("throbbing and propulsive"), Pigeons and Planes ("a bone crushing slice of synth heaven"), The Needle Drop ("captivating and exciting"), The Wild Honey Pie ("synth rock eargasm"), and countless others. Earlier this year, White Sea was tapped as an "Artist To Watch" by Rolling Stone who proclaimed: "Fans of M83 will love the futuristic and cinematic drama of White Sea's instrumental arrangements, soaring voices, and crashing bells."
Morgan Kibby is best known for collaborations and frequent touring with French electronic group M83. In 2008 she contributed keys and arrangements for the band's acclaimed release Saturdays=Youth, and co-wrote the songs "Kim & Jessie", "Up!", "Too Late" and "Skin of the Night". She also received a shared production credit on the album and toured extensively with the group around the world in support of the release. In 2011, she returned to the studio with M83 to contribute to their sixth albumHurry Up, We're Dreaming, providing vocals, keyboards, and arrangements. She co-wrote the songs "Intro", "Reunion", and the album's ubiquitous lead single "Midnight City", which enjoyed massive chart success globally and has sold over 920,000 tracks in the U.S. alone.
Also a venerable remix artist, Kibby has remixed tracks for a range of artists including: School of Seven Bells, Lord Huron, The Naked and Famous, Brittney Spears, Active Child, Manchester Orchestra, Kevin Devine, Demi Lovato, Imagine Dragons, New Politics and more.
