On the heels of her critically acclaimed 2010 album
"Black Heart", Austin-based indie rock singer/songwriter/musician/producer White Widow
is proud to announce the June 5th release of her fourth self-released CD, "A
Psychological Thriller". The new disc is culled from her growing interest in
psychological thriller films and tells the dream-like story of a fictional character in
ten songs that seamlessly blend together into one half-hour long
soundtrack.
"A Psychological Thriller" was written and
self-produced by White Widow (nee Carla Patullo) and recorded in her east side studio (Flicker
Noise Productions) in Austin, TX. The
record was mixed by John Plymale at Overdub Lane, Durham, NC and mastered by Gene Paul at G&J Audio, Union City,
NJ. A talented
multi-instrumentalist and Berklee College of Music grad,
White Widow played most of the instruments on the record apart from cello and
upright bass, performed by Mark Williams "Gumby" and band members, bassist
Colleen Butler, played on tracks “Trust Myself” and “Bloodbath” and drummer Marty Mack
performed throughout the disc.

Late last year, fans of White Widow were given a preview of
the upcoming new record with the haunting song “Serial Love Affair”. You can download that track here:
White Widow has been developing a reputation for her musical
ambition, sonic soundscapes, stirring emotional content and sheer
originality, and the new album and its concept spiked the interest of Brooklyn artists
Jamie Dwyer and Justin Ulloa (Electric Wonder Creative), who are producing an
original animated short film under the same title.
As video/film production has become an integral and effective piece to White Widow’s creative process, inspired
by her music, the film is a fantastical and delusional portrayal of an
unraveling love affair, set to "A Psychological Thriller".

In the tradition of silent films, White Widow’s upcoming
tour will screen the animation as she and her band perform the score. The collaboration between White Widow and Electric Wonder Creative will be expressed
live and on screen, illustrating the beauty, the lust and the lurking darkness
of the new album and
allows her to showcase artistic layers beyond songwriting
and performance.
White Widow’s live performance roots began on the NYC rock
scene in 2004, taking off from the legendary CBGBs. Described by actress/comedienne/musician
Sandra Bernhard as “so f*#king raw and groovy that it scares the
sh*# out of me", she has toured nationally, opening for acts like Dave Rave of
Teenage Head and The Semi Precious Weapons, in addition to performances with
Steve Mazur of Our Lady Peace and Grammy nominee Grayson Hugh, as well as
internationally (Arezzo Wave Festival Tour in Italy).
At SXSW 2010, she opened for Sandra and continued as her musical director and her on-stage backup for her
2010-2011 tour, through San Francisco, London, Miami, New York, and LA, sharing the
stage with great performers such as Liza Minnelli, Justin Vivian Bond, Rufus
Wainwright, and Leisha Hailey. She
also appears on Sandra's latest album, "I Love Being Me, Don't You".
Her work has always focused on the emotional power ripe in
life’s contradictions and has been embraced by audiences and the media alike. "Time Out NY" has raved about her "...growling, angsty vocals and gritty
lovelorn lyrics" and "The Wall Street Journal"’s Jim Fusilli praised her
"…angst-drenched indie rock that
ranges from bombastic to intimate, occasionally within the
same song…she deserves more attention." "Curve Magazine"’s Dave Steinfeld
wrote, "Patullo [White Widow] exudes a ballsy, rock chick vibe and her music
is infectious and mainstream-friendly. You always get the feeling she is one
step away from going
over the edge, but she never does.” With an ever-growing fan base, her music has been featured in films and on television, including the
MTI horror film Ice Queen, The Young & the Restless, All My Children, Nash
Bridges, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and MTV's Teen Mom, among others.
Her first album, 2005’s "No Wood To Knock On",
counters love’s uncertainty with its attending beauty. This startling, breakout work was
described by "Indie Music" as "seductive and poetic – one in which the
music is menacing but the lyrics are genuine words of love, sung by a voice that's
husky and ominous on
the verses and high and sweet on the chorus".
White Widow’s 2007 album, "It’s My Tragedy",
produced with musician Doug Largent, does not shy from the breadth of emotions
surrounding loss and love. As she says, “The disc will drag your heart across the floor
and then tenderly prop it back up with honest, emotional vocals, melodic
guitar licks and lust-worthy bass lines.”
2010’s "Black Heart" infused lovelorn lyrics with
gripping vocals. "Muen Magazine" raved about the record and wrote, "It
seems like the majority of rock artists nowadays are afraid to get right down to the heart
of the matter by offering the public raw and revealing compositions. Not
White Widow - as evidenced throughout her latest release.”
White Widow's recorded and performed projects produce only
her unique energy. On "A Psychological Thriller", delve into a world
that rides the narrow line between bright-eyed desire and grotesque obsession.
