Parquet Courts Share Video For "Sunbathing Animal"; Will Premiere New Song On Late Night With Seth Meyers On 4/30!

Parquet Courts are gearing up for the release of their highly anticipated follow-up to Light Up Gold, Sunbathing Animal, out 6/3 on What's Your Rupture?/Mom+Pop (6/2 on Rough Trade outside the US). The record's "a journey, man"; it's a steady build through the terrains of existential unease, humor for the sake of laughing in the face of unspeakable creative repression, and ultimately, hits moments of catharsis at its peaks (see: title track). And so, we're proud to premiere a new video on Noisey by Andy Capper for the title track and first single off Sunbathing Animal. The aforementioned warmth-relishing creature is Frida, singer/guitarist Andrew Savage's two-year-old cat. In an interview with Savage, Capper and he discuss the video, which features strong "Bastards Of Young" vibes, but also get real about their demeanors and expectations. Savage on the "studio magic" involved in the video:

"Every afternoon [Frida] takes a nap in that spot, but that afternoon she knew she was being observed. So I created a special tea that I found on a cat lady website that was full of herbs that could allegedly make a cat sleepy. You got some valerian root, some poppy seed extract, skullflower caps, chamomile.... I gave that to her and she was kinda being a bit more chill but she was still moving around a bit too much. And I guess we basically made the sofa area of my apartment into a cat paradise in order to get her to perform. We had bird songs playing on the iPhone, the window was open for bird noises outside. We put some food on the couch and then finally some cat nip."

Also, in other BIG Parquet Courts news, the band will be performing on Late Night with Seth Meyers on April 30th! Not only that, but they'll be premiering a new song off the record, so set your DVRs!

"'Sunbathing Animal'" is a glorious mess of contradictions: it's the least representative, most rigidly structured song from an otherwise free-ranging, stylistically sprawling album, somehow striking the middle ground between the militiaristic discipline of Pink Flag-era Wire and the brain-scrambling, desert-storming cow-punk of early Meat Puppets. - Pitchfork [BEST NEW TRACK]

"Lines like 'Faces changing shape but represent the same old beast/ I want to flee but I can only stare,' chewed-up and spit out like a bad bite of food, remind us that their well of tormented poetry has yet to run dry." - The FADER

"a raucous four-minute beater comparing the vulnerability of people to that of a creature who just wants to soak in some rays, as evidenced by the outro refrain, 'Frying and abiding, I'm in your control / Like a sunbathing animal.'" - SPIN

"A dizzy punk-rock rush with some delightfully squalid guitar solos. It's a total blast of a song" -Stereogum
