The third of four videos from Cass McCombs that will be appearing in the first month of 2014 debuts today and it's the second collaboration between McCombs and director Eric Fensler, who previously worked together on the poignant video for McCombs's "You Saved My Life," which was also voted one of the best fifty music videos of 2009 by Pitchfork.
We don't want to over explain it, but simply put, a viewer's patience is rewarded with a minimalist storytelling jewel. Fensler explains:
"The story of the video is simply up to the viewer to discover and interpret. The visual accompaniment to the song wasn't made to be explained in a press release, sorry. Lets all have a little mystery for once. I suggest simply putting some headphones on or go home and go full screen on that totally kick-ass home theater system you have and relax for three minutes to a cogitative music video.
Hopefully it will make you stop and think for a moment."
"Unearthed" is the haunting closer on McCombs's latest and features the talents of Sleepy Doug Shaw and Mike Bones. Big Wheel and Others, McCombs's seventh album, produced by McCombs and mixed with Chet 'J.R.' White (Girls), is a marauding marvel of great beauty, insight, humor and mystery that truly sees McCombs at the peak of his mercurial powers - his restless muse making stops at all the strangest, most singular roadsides of rock and roll, blues, jazz, country and more on its nomadic quest for human truth and understanding.
