When Alyssa and Doug Graham first met in grade school, they probably didn’t know that, decades later, they’d be releasing their debut album RIVERMAN’S DAUGHTER to positive reviews. On February 4, 2014, The Grahams get to relive that pivotal moment with the release of the Deluxe Edition via 12 South Records/Red Distribution. However, every moment from their first grade classroom to falling in love as teenagers in the shadowy streets of New York City before growing into adults holding hands, has had The Grahams pointed at this release.
On the heels of recent success, such as reaching 29 in the Americana Music Charts and landing placement in CMTand USA Today, The Grahams have made six additional tracks available to the public. Two new songs will accompany three reworks and a cover of Neil Young’s “Down By the River.” Each track builds on the unified, fully realized concept album. Throughout their tours and travels, Alyssa and Doug Graham wrote the 13 original songs that comprise the work as they made their way along the Great River Road that parallels the Mississippi. They stopped in various juke joints, exchanging stories an d playing music with the locals. At the end of their journey, they holed up in a houseboat in rural Louisiana where the Mississippi spills into the Atchafalaya swamp, and periodically invited friends and musicians onboard to help them hone the material. They learned the craft of songwriting from the family fold in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains, shaping their interest in traditional country and mountain bluegrass into an infectious blend of storytelling that resulted in songs of love, loss, yearning and the view from American roads less traveled. This spring, as the band releases their tales of the river, every bend in the road that The Grahams meandered down on their journey down the mighty Mississippi will be brought back to life through Riverman’s Daughter (Deluxe). The band will again load up their 1971 Chevy Suburban, affectionately called Bessie, with their stories of backwoods culture and dirt road delicacies to revisit the bends in the road where the songs were created. A national tour featuring Lilly Hiatt will accompany the Deluxe Release. Dates will be announced soon. Click here to watch the "Cathedral Pines" Video, which premiered on CMT EDGE.
