Held In Splendor, the stunning second record by Boston-based trio Quilt, has an amazing breadth of stylistic variety, never letting the listener get too comfortable in one patois before changing their musical vernacular abruptly. The album will see the light of day on January 28th via Mexican Summer, and all this week leading up to the release, the album is streaming on NPR Music's First Listen.
Quilt (Shane Butler, Anna Fox Rochinski, John Andrews) is the result of kids from the 80s dreaming about people from 60s thinking about life in the future. They are woodsy and colorful, with tight three-part harmonies and drunken melodies, laid-back and happy. The material comes from a deep-rooted creativity in all three of the members, resulting in an eclectic but hauntingly familiar musical experience. Folk mixes with both earthly and ethereal inspirations for a kind of psychedelic, grounded sound, lush and full but hard to pin down to any one genre.

PRAISE FOR QUILT
"Quilt is the perfect name for this band, whose every song seems to seamlessly knit together at least three distinct tunes. There's a sense of adventure, shifting perspectives and surprise in these pop treasures, each of which feels like a long jam distilled to its essence." - Bob Boilen, NPR Music
"...folksy melodies, lush harmonies, and a familiarity that's about as warm as wrapping yourself up under your down comforter. Which, let's be real, is all we really want to do nowadays, anyway." -NYLON
"It's hard not to call them psychedelic, but honestly, it is the work they have done on the songs for this second record that really stands out." - David Dye, NPR World Café
"Defiantly, exactingly retro Boston trio taking on psychedelic folk, that a-few-hours-after-your-acid-trip-comes-to-an-end-and-everything's-hazy-and-beautiful vibe that defined late '60s and early '70s deep cuts in particular...Sophomore album Held in Splendor, is jammy pop gone widescreen." -SPIN [50 Albums You Gotta Hear in 2014]
