STREAM DOUG TUTTLE'S DEBUT ALBUM, OUT JAN. 28TH ON TROUBLE IN MIND

In the spring of 2013, Doug Tuttle moved from New Hampshire to Boston and began writing his self-titled, debut solo album (out Jan. 28 on Trouble In Mind) in the wake of both his former band MMOSS' break-up and the end of a longtime romantic relationship. As one of the principal songwriters in MMOSS, Doug was integral in honing the band's signature brand of West Coast bummer harmonies wrapped taut around a sinewy and dreamy collision of hazy psychedelia and motorik krautrock. The fruits of his labor are clearly evident on the self-titled debut, which is available to stream in full at SPIN all week long leading up to the release date. Doug deftly forges a sound all his own, weaving nebulous jams into masterfully crafted pop gems. The previously shared track, "Turn This Love," practically pours out of the speakers as the cornerstone of the record. At once hazy and yearning, the tune builds upon melodic organ drones and splashing cymbal crashes before turning into an extended jam that you wish could go on forever just the way you want "Cowgirl in the Sand" to play on and on until the end of time. There is definitely a bittersweet narrative going on throughout the record but with the strength of every single track the listener becomes the willing accomplice. Doug's solo debut is a reflection of his musical and personal past, but with its eyes solely on the future.

Doug Tuttle will play an album release show at Middlesex Lounge in Boston next Wednesday, Jan. 29. For more info, visit: http://on.fb.me/1moJNww
