"June Divided proves that big explosive sounds
can come from just a few smart individuals when you know what you're
doing." - The Aquarian
Philly based
rock band, June Divided, released their debut album, Backbone,
today July 10th. "Bold" is definitely the
word of the year for this daring band who have spent the past year and a half
learning what it means to take risks, resulting in ten new and impressive
tracks. Drawing on post-rock guitar work and undeniable pop rock sensibilities,
there is something for Explosions In The Sky and Jimmy
Eat World fans alike. You can check out a full stream of Backbone on

What started out as a distraction from the job hunt became
the actual job itself for college grads Melissa Menago (vocals/guitar)and Chris
Kissel (guitar), once they stumbled across drummer, Keith Gill,
on Craigslist. All lifelong musicians, their connection turned out to be a
creative catalyst. The three decided to follow the rise they had found
themselves on when they released their debut EP, The Other Side of
You, in February 2011. Upon the release, June
Divided hit the ground running.
In 2011, the band was on the move with performances at SXSW,
Warped Tour, and a music video for hit "Bullet" on MTVu. In
addition to being featured on NBC, commercial radio stations and Alternative
Press Magazine, the band scored a week on Vans Warped Tour 2012 when
they were chosen as a finalist out of 23,000 bands in the Ernie Ball:
Battle of the Bands competition.
The band found their permanent fourth member in bassist, Lenny
Sasso, in December 2011 and the quartet got started writing their debut
full-length album shortly after. Produced by Alec Henninger (Framing
Hanley, Transmit Now, Hierosonic), Backbone is certainly a
risk all in itself. Despite its independent budget, variety of subject matter
and bold technical traits, the band stayed true to their form when it comes to
rock and roll. With their first single "Secrets", you
will feel the honest lyrics, strong pop chords, and full energy of the band
that will make you get up out of your seat and sing along.
"There's quite a variety of material on this album;
it was a bold thing to do. The sounds and the writing style tie it all together
- but after a year and half in the industry, we had a lot to say and weren't
afraid to say it," says Menago.
A bold, raw sound is indeed what you'll get from June
Divided, and with this new release, they are definitely showing some backbone.
June Divided released Backbone today, July
10th.
