A Great Big Pile Of Leaves Release Exclusive Download on Baeble Music Today!

To Release Third MAKING MOVES 7" Vinyl On July 24th!

A Great Big Pile of Leaves, the third of five bands in the Making Moves series, have released an exclusive download of their track "Pet Mouse" on Baeble Music today, July 5th. Drexel University's MAD Dragon Records (MDR) and Motion City Soundtrack are pleased to announce Making Moves, a series of 7 inch releases by emerging artists, produced and curated by members of Motion City Soundtrack. TheMaking Moves Series will be released jointly on MAD Dragon Records and Motion City Soundtrack's recently launched record label, The Boombox Generation. The indie-pop trio, known as A Great Big Pile of Leaves, will be releasing their Making Moves 7-inch on July 24th.

Brooklyn-based trio, A Great Big Pile of Leaves got their start in late 2007 when guitarist/singer, Peter Weiland, and drummer, Tyler Soucy, took time from their prior projects to start writing material of their own.  The first six songs came together as the self-released EP, The Fiery Works, which the duo put out as a free download on their website. As word spread online, the band's fan base grew along with Weiland and Soucy's excitement to get back to recording.

Continuing with the formula of self-producing, The Fiery Works II followed shortly afterward and was also released as a free download. Within the next year, the digital releases were downloaded over 12,000 times and the group prepared for a live setting with the addition of bassist, Tucker Yaro. After playing several shows and writing a batch of new songs over the next few months, the newfound trio prepared themselves to record their debut full-length record Have You Seen My Prefrontal Cortex?, which was independently released in June 2010. Since that following winter, the band has released two acoustic EP's onTopshelf Records and been out on tour supporting the likes of Motion City SoundtrackSay AnythingSaves the DayThe Appleseed Cast, Hellogoodbye, Fake Problems, a month long run in March with Mansions and Young Statues, as well as playing SXSW 2012Never Say Never Festival, and Canada Music week.

Their upcoming release for the Making Moves series, which is supported in part by the Kal & Lucille Rudman Institute for Entertainment Industry Studies at Drexel University, will consist of three new unique tracks showcasing the musical talent of these three artists. Jesse Johnson of Motion City Soundtrack curated the tracks with producer Mike Poorman (Hot Rod Circuit, The Dear Hunter), along with Drexel's Music Industry Program alumnus, Dave Petitengineering the sessions. Kicking off the 7-inch with "Pet Mouse", A Great Big Pile of Leaves display their indie-cred while incorporating a more mainstream melody that will draw in all listeners. Transitioning into the dreamy, more subdued "Writing Utensils," the band's intricate instrumental parts are highlighted drawing resemblance to the likes of Modest Mouse. Closing with "Ambiversion", the thought-provoking lyrics leave the listener wondering why this is only a 7-inch.

Soucy states, "Jesse (of Motion City Soundtrack) brought the idea of the Making Moves series to our attention late last year and we all knew that it would be a great opportunity to work with a producer (Mike Poorman) for the first time. The band has always self-recorded and produced our own records, so it was nice to be able to take a step back from those roles and really focus on the songs and our performances, which I think shows in the final product."
