Introducing The Death Set! Debut Album Out 4/22 on Counter Records (Ninja Tune)

The Death Set's debut full-length album, Worldwide, will be released on April 22nd by Counter Records, the rock imprint of Ninja Tune. Preceding the full-length release, is the digital release of the "MFDS" single on February 26th, and the "Around The World" etched 7" in March.

The Death Set hails from Baltimore, Maryland, by way of Gold Coast, Australia, where Johnny Siera met co-founding member Beau Velasco in 2005. Both drawn to each other’s reckless care of music, the duo united to write fleeting songs with lifelong hooks. Hell-bent on recording and touring, The Death Set moved first to Sydney, quickly to Brooklyn, and finally to Baltimore where their punk rock abandon could thrive.

Worldwide boasts the endearing noise of unrefined creation. Self-described as hip-hop kids making punk music, The Death Set sounds most like their influencers -- Black Flag, Minor Threat, Buzzcocks -- and of touring friends Japanther, Best Fwends, and Bonde Do Role. From the timeless call-to-upraise-arms of “Negative Thinking”, through the rallying cry of “Intermission”, The Death Set exploits consonance and dissonance to the fullest. “Around the World” plods across the dance floor, while “Listen To This Collision” puts crowds on a crash course with each other.

Johnny Siera cites that frenzied energy as The Death Set’s reason for being, and their tight-knit community as the fuel to keep going. Touted as “Best Live Band” by the Baltimore City Paper, the live three-piece -- Siera, guitarist/vocalist Peter O'Connell and a rotating arsenal of drummers -- bursts to life offstage and at crowd level. With breakneck guitars atop lo-fi electronics, searing vocals with a lift of positivity, The Death Set redefine the space of the anthem, and take it Worldwide.
