The crowd is primed, the gloves are on and the bell is about to sound. THE AUDITION are stepping into the ring with a healthy batch of danceable rock riffs, addictive melodies, infectious lyrics and more swift moves than a undefeated ultimate fighter. Today, the Chicago heavyweights and current Pacific Sunwear Tour headliners unleash Champion, sure to be one of the most exciting releases of 2008.
Champion, the band’s sophomore release with Victory Records, proves to be the perfect follow-up to 2005’s Controversy Loves Company, which sold over 50,000 copies in the United States alone. The always unpredictable stylings of THE AUDITION are sure to delight the legion of loyal fans and undoubtedly spawn many new ones.
THE AUDITION manages to maintain the magic that they have come to be known for with this highly anticipated ten-track gem. But, listeners will again struggle to place THE AUDITION within a specific genre. Are they pop? Rock? Dance? Punk? Perhaps drummer Ryan O’Connor said it best, “Nobody can really label us. That’s why on this record we wanted to try and take the things that make us ‘The Audition’ and make them better. We made the rock parts harder, the dance parts ‘dancier’ and the hooks catchier.”
The world will soon thank them.
Furthering their reputation for a certain edginess, the band is currently collaborating with videogame publisher Ignition Entertainment for an innovative project that binds together the music and gaming industries. Although this is not an unfamiliar marriage, THE AUDITION takes the relationship further than just providing gaming “background music.” On March 25th, Ignition Entertainment will release Obscure: The Aftermath, a much buzzed about survival horror videogame for the Wii, PlayStation 2 and PC. In the weeks prior to its launch, a series of movie trailers featuring an amazing live action cinematic based on the horrific storyline of Obscure will be released featuring a soundtrack from THE AUDITION, including the seductive first single, “Warm Me Up.” Aspects of the Obscure: The Aftermath game and trailers will cross over into the band’s music video for “Warm Me Up,” set to debut soon.
