Thought Beneath Film - The Making Of

The past year has been a whirlwind for Hamilton, Ontario rockers Thought Beneath Film. But it's only been a build-up to the release of the band's full-length debut LP 'Cartographers,' arriving April 15 on MapleMusic Recordings.

Produced by the band, mixed by Tom Lord-Alge, and mastered by the legendary Bob Ludwig, 'Cartographers' is a potent blast of high energy guitar pop in the time-honoured Steel City tradition.  After the title track introduced the band to commercial radio across Canada last fall, Thought Beneath Film have just released their current single, 'If I Could Fix You (You Know That I Would),' to radio and will be shooting an accompanying video shortly.

Formed by brothers Brent and Brian Wirth, they took the name Thought Beneath Film from an Emily Dickinson poem, which speaks to the hidden interpretations that can be found by looking at things through a different perspective. The band first gained notice in Hamilton with their debut EP'Detours,' which led to a development deal with MapleMusic Recordingsand Slaight Music by winning the 2012 edition of Slaight Music's 'It's Your Shot' competition.

As touring plans are finalized, Thought Beneath Film are proud to have also been chosen as one of the first artists featured on AUX TV's new series 'Influenced,' set to debut shortly. The show focuses on the fascinating stories of various Canadian artists in different musical genres and takes a look at the biggest influences on their musical careers. It blends artist profiles with video flow and exclusive live performances.

Yes, Thought Beneath Film plays with youthful abandon; yes, they deal in monstrous hooks; and yes punctuate their anthems with the Oohs and Woos and gang vocals that make pop music pop. But their desires are larger -- they're not content with being cool because they want to be good.

"We want to be the biggest band in the world," Brent Wirth says, without a trace of irony or careerism. He knows there's a stigma to admitting this, but he doesn't care. Standing in fierce opposition to exclusivity and exclusionism within and without the Canadian music scene, Thought Beneath Film's music is for you, for them, for everyone who wants to comes to the show -- because life's too short to not have your heart set to overdrive.
