NEW YORK, NY (April 8, 2014) - Strange Talk, the Melbourne, Australia based alt-pop four-piece will release their self-produced Wind-up Records debut album Cast Away onApril 29, 2014. All songs on the album were mixed by Tony Hoffer (M83, Phoenix) with the exception of “Climbing Walls,” “Eskimo Boy” and “Is It Real?” which were mixed byEliot James (Bloc Party, Two Door Cinema Club).
Strange Talk’s anthemic electro-tinged debut single “Young Hearts,” which Neon Goldpremiered and described as, “From the sizzling coming-of-age synth arpeggios to the contagious singalong choruses, it’s an ageless beauty that bleeds neon and shimmers like glitter and gold” was produced by Captain Cuts (Grouplove, Smallpools, The Mowgli’s) and mixed by Tony Hoffer. The music video for “Young Hearts,” directed by Mathematics (award winning director of Empire of The Sun’s “Walking on a Dream” video) will premiere within VEVO’s homepage carousel on April 21. The song went to #1 on Hype Machine and The Chainsmokers, whose song#SELFIE is everywhere these days, heard the track and wanted to remix it. The result, which you can listen to HERE, immediately shot to #1 on Hype Machine as well and has garnered over 825,000 plays to date.
Rolling Stone (Australia) gave Cast Away a four out of five star review calling it "Equal parts Cut Copy and Daft Punk with pinches of Eighties pop, Strange Talk's album is a fizzy cocktail of synths, breathy vocals and tinny drums." Billboard said, “Stateside fans of stylish alt-pop acts like Empire of the Sun, Cut Copy and Royksopp will be getting very familiar with Strange Talk... Bursting with ornate synthesizers and warm vocals…”
Strange Talk has racked up numerous accolades including #1 Billboard Uncharted for “Climbing Walls.” They played multiple SXSW Shows to rave reviews - press coverage included “30 SXSW Acts About to Break” in Huffington Post, “50 Acts You Need To Hear” on Buzzfeed and “25 Songs From SXSW That Will Stick In Your Head” in Elite Millennial among others. The band has had some great syncs including “Morning Sun,” off Cast Away, featured in and on the soundtrack of the recent Zac Efron film That Awkward Moment and in the April 1st episode of GLEE. “Climbing Walls” was featured in American Eagle Project Live Your Life Campaign and Cheer, “Cast Away” was used in Need for Speed: Most Wanted and 90210 among others. They’ve played such festivals as Parklife, Stereosonic, Future Music, Soundscape and Falls, opened for Foster The People, the Rapture, Neon Indian and Marina and The Diamonds. They finish up a string of dates with Swedish indie rockers The Sounds and Blondefire tonight and continue to tour throughout the United States; Their May 14th Los Angeles date with Broods is now sold out (tour dates below).
