Catch Them Live In Los Angeles and San Francisco

“Xu Xu Fang’s music is so moody and emotional that it almost demands a visual accompaniment.” – Rolling Stone

“Enormous, dark, psychedelic, and beautiful, Xu Xu Fang is full of meditative moods that haunt the diaphanous triangle formed by Pink Floyd, Radiohead, and Sigur Ros.”
–
The Onion

“Stunningly beautiful moments amidst the chaotic buildup of spiraling distorted guitars.”
 – Consequence of Sound

We are excited to share California-based psychedelic-rock group Xu Xu Fang have premiered a remix of their track “Noir State Beach” by famed Cologne, Germany electronic artist The Modernist (Jörg Burger).  The remix is a haunting and hypnotic spin on an already memorable track, featured last week in the Season 2 Premiere of The CW’s The Originals.  Burger fills “Noir State Beach” with echoing vocals, a relentless bass line, and indelible drum stomp.  Listen and share the track, courtesy of PopMatters and see the band live this weekend in California.

The first single and video, starring Luke Grimes of True Blood and forthcoming movie 50 Shades of Grey, “Noir State Beach”, from Xu Xu Fang’s upcoming, full-length album, (featuring guest duet vocals and bass guitar by Michael Shuman of Queens of the Stone Age) premiered on RollingStone.comThe song was recently included in Entertainment Weekly’s TV Jukebox: The Week’s Best Music-On-TV Moments; a Spotify playlist and feature about the song.

The band’s new single and video (directed by Ladytron member Reuben Wu), “Friend to the Unknown”, premiered last week on VICE’s music site, Noisey. The video is also profiled in a behind-the-scenes article on VICE/Intel’s The Creators Project.
Hailed as “local innovators,” by the Los Angeles Times, Xu Xu Fang’s 12” debut single, These Days, received initial praise in the UK’s MOJO Magazine; the same place where producer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Bobby Tamkin, enjoyed similar overseas success as a member of The Warlocks. Shortly after, Xu Xu Fang self-released the Mourning Son EP, and television show Gossip Girl licensed multiple songs, skyrocketing it to #3 on Amazon’s Psychedelic Rock Album Chart.

Enter Queens of the Stone Age bass player Michael Shuman. Upon hearing Xu Xu Fang’s new album in progress, Shuman joined the band in the studio, recording bass and duet vocals on several of the band’s new songs. Excited with what he heard, producer/mixer, Alain Johannes, known for his work with QOTSA, Chris Cornell, and Arctic Monkeys, took an interest in Xu Xu Fang, and contributed mixes to the upcoming full-length record.

See the band perform live this fall.  Dates are below.
