Lucky Magazine

“…lovely harmonies and folk-like simplicity…”
USA Today

“Prepare to be emotionally disarmed by the otherworldly, heart-shredding harmonies of these Indianapolis, Ind. sisters.”—Chicago Tribune

Lily & Madeleine’s new single, “Rabbit,” premiered yesterday at ELLE Magazine and can now be heard/shared viasoundcloud. Of the song, ELLE asserts, “…the twosome, known for their pinpoint harmonies and vocal precision, had no reservations about flipping the script this go-round: They amped up the production and gave their new album…a far more bombastic sound.”

“Rabbit” is from the sister’s forthcoming sophomore album, Fumes, which will be released October 28 onAsthmatic Kitty Records (pre-order). Already receiving widespread acclaim, NPR Music praises, “This record has a little more of a kick to it…it’s fuller and more produced and more fleshed out…this whole record is zippier. I am excited about it,” while U.K.’s The Independent proclaims, “Never mind Difficult Second Album Syndrome. When Indianapolis sisters Lily & Madeleine released their lovely self-titled album in 2013, their stated aim was to record an album a year for the next three years. True to their word, one year and one day later…Fumes, an even better follow up.”

In celebration of the release, the sisters will embark on a nationwide tour this fall, including shows at NY’s Le Poisson Rouge on November 6 and DC’s The Hamilton on November 8. See below for complete details.

Of the album’s first single, “The Wolf Is Free,” KCRW describes, “Their transition from teenagers into womanhood provides rich experiences for songwriting,” while Nylon Magazine declares, “Lily & Madeleine fold stunning harmonies into brushed drums, dreamy strings, and soft keys—and fade into you in the process” and My Old Kentucky Blog asserts, “The song see the sisters further exploring new sounds, but maintaining the beautiful harmonies…” The song’s official video can be viewed via Rookie Magazine.

Produced once again by Paul Mahern, the 10-track album was recorded in Bloomington, IN and was written by the sisters and longtime collaborator Kenny Childers (Gentleman Caller). Of the project, Madeleine comments, “Fumesis a new step for us as artists. It shows our transformation as musicians and as women, and was inspired by our experience on the road as well as the life experiences of people close to us. Dedicating more time and working with new artists in the studio allowed us to better create the sound we wanted. It’s a perfect reflection of this stage of our lives.”

The new recording follows the sisters’ self-titled debut album, which was released last year to overwhelming critical acclaim. The New York Times calls Lily & Madeleine, “…extraordinary…,” while Nylon Magazine praises, “…already honed a mature, enchanting sound” and Paste asserts, “stunning singers, smart songwriters, and effortless live performers.” Additionally, in the past year, the duo has appeared on CBS’ “This Morning,” KCRW’s “Morning Becomes Eclectic” and NPR Music’s “Tiny Desk Concert” series.
