Sophomore album Rest and Let Go out March 4 on Solid State Records

February 18, 2014 - With the release of their awaited sophmore album - Rest and Let Go (out March 4th on Solid State Records) - just two weeks away – THE OVERSEER are giving fans another preview in the form of standout track “Scarlet Wool.”

While the Arkansas hard rockers have developed a well-deserved reputation for their heavily textured, experimental and at times atmospheric hard rock, the new track shows THE OVERSEER isn’t afraid to throw a curveball. “With ‘Scarlet Wool,’ we wanted to just write a fast rock song, so that's exactly what we did,” explains guitiarist/vocalist Darren King. “There aren’t many bells and whistles, and it’s bookended with the rawest thing we've ever put on an album. Drums, bass, guitar, vocals – it’s A ROCK SONG!”

Rest and Let Go finds THE OVERSEER re-teaming with Matt McClellen at Glow in the Dark Studios, where they had recorded their 2012 debut, We Search, We Dig. The celebrated album drew praise from taste-makers such as Revolver, who characterized it as “heavily textured metalcore that balances brutality with beauty,” while Outburn declared, “THE OVERSEERhas burst onto the scene with a head-turning and memorable debut.”

Much like the band itself, Rest and Let Go, is bursting with life. It’s a fearless, ferocious album that bubbles with urgency and vitality. It’s ironic, then, that the album centers so intensely on the polar opposite: Death. “It kinda creeps its way into everyone's life at some point, and it found a way to creep into our record,” says King.

THE OVERSEER spent much of the last two years on the road supporting We Search, We Dig and laying the groundwork for Rest and Let Go, including tours alongside AUGUST BURNS RED, OF MICE & MEN, IMPENDING DOOM, SHAI HULUD and more. Now, as one of Solid State Records’ “new breed” of bands,THE OVERSEER are primed to make the transition from up-and-comers to lynchpins of a reinvigorated scene.
