TOKYO POLICE CLUB’S “TUNNEL VISION” PREMIERES AT STEREOGUM
NEW ALBUM FORCEFIELD DUE MARCH 25 ON MOM + POP MUSIC
BAND TO EMBARK ON NATIONWIDE TOUR THIS SPRING
“Tunnel Vision,” the latest track off Tokyo Police Club’s upcoming album Forcefield is streaming now at Stereogum:http://bit.ly/1c1igCG. The new record will be released March 25 via Mom + Pop Music (and March 24 in Europe via Memphis Industries.) Following 2010’s Champ, Forcefield is the band’s first release in four years and is receiving early critical acclaim—Pitchforknotes, “Tokyo Police Club remain one of the few guitar-based indie rock bands that can pen danceable songs that pop without overtly and desperately trying to be ‘dance-pop,’” while SPIN describes the new music as “ebullient, über-polished,” and Consequence of Soundadds they “demonstrate heightened levels of cohesiveness and maturity that make a deeper impact than any infectious riff.” To celebrate the release, the band will embark on a nationwide tour beginning this April.
Forcefield was produced by Doug Boehm (Dr. Dog, Girls) and David Monks (vocals, bass). Of the new music Monks notes, “Since writing started for Forcefield in mid-2011 there have been so many trends and every kind of ‘wave.’ We saw them all come and disappear or change into something broader. It left us wanting to make something that would last. We ended up rediscovering energy and guitars and simple, direct songs. There was certainly a lot of pressure to take the music somewhere new and there were lots of opinions about how to do that, but in the end we blocked all that out and followed our instincts. I think that’s what Forcefield is—it doesn’t matter what else is going on out there, the music just has to be honest and have a real feeling to it.” See below for full track listing.
In place of a standard pre-order, Tokyo Police Club is encouraging fans to participate in a “Pledge Music Campaign” where they can pre-order Forcefield in a variation of bundles while taking part in an intimate fan club style promotion. They’ll get exclusive early pre-sale access to the band’s spring tour, the first listen of the entire album, as well as access to B-sides, demos and other content not to be seen elsewhere. All fans pledging have a chance to win unique experiences with Tokyo Police Club including joining the band for hockey games, dinners, soundcheck and more.
