COLD BEAT TOURS THE WEST COAST

Cold Beat, the new band from Hannah Lew of Grass Widow, have released their debut EP, "Worms/Year 5772," via Lew's own Crime on the Moon label today, Nov. 5th. The EP features two stellar original songs and remixes of those songs by Mikey Young of Australian industrial post-punks Total Control and San Francisco doom-synth band POW!. The EP is streaming onRookie Mag, along with an interview with Lew. Also out today is a video for the songs "Worms,"premiered on Gorilla vs. Bear. The "Worms" video was shot at LAX by Mike Stoltz on 16mm and also features hand painted animations by Hannah Lew. The imagery is very much in keeping with the EP cover art and is largely about multiplicity and abstraction of self.

"'Worms' sounds a bit like a vintage surf-rock song chopped up and tossed in a blender-- breezy riffs, tumbling percussion, and Lew's foggy vocals swirl around in a melodic maelstrom. That description fits Lew's other band too, but Cold Beat sounds like it's coming from a more singular and personal sensibility." - Lindsay Zoladz, Pitchfork

"Cold Beat markets on sweet pop and compressed hi-hats, both which fly by at lightning-fast speeds, and never too ready to commit to length, the first track is over before you know it. It leaves a remarkable residual pop shine in its wake." - Dayna Evans, Impose
