Grass Is Green Debut New Single "Vacation 2.0" on Stereogum

GRASS IS GREEN Debut "Vacation 2.0" on Stereogum
GRASS IS GREEN TO RELEASE "VACATION VINNY" ON JANUARY 14TH // ANNOUNCE TOUR DATES WITH SPEEDY ORTIZ

Over the past few years Boston’s underground and experimental rock scene has grown stronger and increasingly strange with every passing season and Grass Is Green have been a fixture of it all since 2010. The quartet is comprised of Andy Chervenak (vocals/guitars), Devin McKnight(guitars), Michael J. Thomas III (bass), and Jesse Weiss (drums), four friends with an undeniable musical chemistry that shines through the dim and discordant chords and dynamic rhythms. After spending much of 2012 and 2013 on the road in support of last year’s Ronson, Grass Is Green will release their vibrant new record Vacation Vinny on January 14th, 2014 via Exploding In Sound Records (Palehound, Porches, Ovlov). The band recorded their new album at Gravesend Recordings in Brooklyn’s Silent Barn with producers Julian Fader and Carlos Hernandez (of Ava Luna). The album was mixed by Fader, Hernandez and Grass Is Green’s Michael Thomas III and mastered by Michael Siegel. When asked about the themes of the record, Chervenak offered, “If Vacation Vinny was a movie or novel, it would be a dark comedy that explores the reckless nature of a restless mind.” The restlessness is contagious.

Vacation Vinny is the result of a tight knit band having a good time making the music they want to hear. Having spent as many months on the road together as they have, Grass Is Green was able to create a loose album while their playing remains complex and tight, watching as their songs continued to take shape in the studio. Vacation Vinny pushes Grass Is Green’s tangled sound into new territories thanks to expanding melodies, layered harmonies, and a new found disposition to embrace the noise within their sinewy punk songs. There is an emphasis on the record as whole, songs move in and out of a hazy cloud of smoke as tracks feed and sprawl into one another, fully formed and unnervingly interesting.

Today, Stereogum premiered the album's first single, "Vacation 2.0" stating the song, "jerks and jumps its way through three thrashy minutes" and "it's smart as hell but you can still most to it".

Grass Is Green’s origins began in a not-too-distant suburb of Washington, DC, and influences of both DC and Boston’s vital underground can be heard in their abrasive music and warped structures. Grass Is Green released their debut, Yeddo in 2010, introducing the basement scene to a discordant and angular blend of punk and indie rock while building a loyal following. The band has since grown notorious for their unforgettable shows, explosive energy and captivating melodic and rhythmic shifts and turns. A mere six months later, Chibimoon arrived, expanding their songwriting in unforeseen ways and their tight live performances followed suit while they began playing larger shows. In 2012, Grass is Green joined the Exploding in Sound Records roster and delivered Ronson and Split Dicks, records that captured the diverse sound of the band... that is until Vacation Vinny.

Known for their captivating and explosive live shows, Grass Is Green have been picked as support for the likes of Melt Banana, Tera Melos, Joe Lally (Fugazi), DD\MM\YYYY, Girls Against Boys, And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead and countless others. The band recently announced a tour in support of the album set for January with Speedy Ortiz. The two bands are booking the DIY tour together, the way they always have. Dates are below.
