Originally from Turkey, PAINTED ON WATER garnered wide acclaim in the United States for their debut LP. Cohesively blending traditional Turkish folk with modern jazz and blues, it featured guests including the legendary fusion player Al DiMeola and jazz drummer Dave Weckl. However, even with such distinguished guests, songwriter Demir Demirkan’s ear for arrangement and vocalist Sertab Erener’s beautiful approach to melody remained at the center.
Now based in Chicago, PAINTED ON WATER return with a new EP of straightforward pop, delivered with panache and a dose of crunchy rock flair. The sound might be different, but Demirkan and Erener’s strengths shine as bright as ever.
Drawing from artists as diverse as Muse, Evanescence, or even Sade, the new EP reflects PAINTED ON WATER’s mastery of pop craft. As Turkey’s first and only winners of the Eurovision Song Contest, that mastery should come as no surprise.
Look for PAINTED ON WATER’s new EP Chicago Issue out November 19 and an LP to follow in 2014.
