The Piney Gir Country Road Show pushes street date for "Jesus Wept" to 8/16 via Greyday Records!

Portland's Greyday Records releases Jesus Wept LP from The Piney Gir Country Roadshow in the US 8/16!
(Please note street date change!)
Hold Yer Horses also available for the first time in US!

"Underneath the visuals are some carefully crafted songs and some very dextrous musicianship which, when added to Piney’s own easy-on-the-ear vocals and eminently quotable lyrics, make for an intriguing and entertaining listen... pretty much beyond criticism as a piece of music and Piney herself is too skilled a performer to fall into some of the more obvious traps which await a songstress of her type." - Adequacy.net

Portland's Greyday Records brings us two releases August 16 from The Piney Gir Country Roadshow, project of Angela Penhaligon, former Vic Twenty frontwoman. Both Jesus Wept and the re-released Hold Yer Horses will be available for the first time in the US.
Piney Gir taunts traditional country music with a big city edge… Jesus Wept is a nod to Piney’s strict religious upbringing and her urge to walk the line between naughty and nice. There comes a time when everyone should question their faith and Piney (with the help of her trusty Roadshow) has channelled that into a record- a record that’s a little bit country, a little bit rock ‘n’ roll and a whole lot of attitude.

Jesus Wept is more than a froth of petticoats in a fresh summer field, it’s Ingmar Bergman’s ‘Seventh Seal’ twisted through the eyes of a local drunk at the truck stop honky tonk. It’s fun but it’s dark and you don’t know if you should like it so much but you do, so have another whiskey.

Previously Piney has been compared to her heroes like Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette; she’s been hailed an ‘indie Dolly Parton.” But this album is more Emmylou Harris in her Gram Parsons days, it’s little girl lost… it’s the devil in disguise and the devil looks good. This album sees Piney grow up and face hard facts; hard facts that can make many a country song that much better. “‘A tear in my beer’ ain’t the half of it,” says Piney.

Jesus Wept is Piney’s book of revelations and she’s taking you with her to heaven and back.

Pop icon, British game show contestant, and industry queen, Angela Penhaligon (aka Piney Gir) fits all the bills. The London (via Kansas) beauty has honed a style both unique and comforting, an electro-indie-pop sound that is as at home on a top 40 chart as immersed in an elitist indie comp tape. Playing live with a keytar and a smooth porcelain doll face, Piney hits country western, 50¹s romance, gothic darkness, choice covers, and folk dance. Cliched or not, Piney Gir really does offer something for everyone.

The former Vic Twenty frontwoman released her debut album,
Peakahokahoo, with UK label Truck Records. Fractured and mysterious, but always touched by a sly sense of fun, her charismatic performances and musicianship have earned her supporting slots with acts like Simple Kid, Erasure, and Cosey Fanni Tutti (from Throbbing Gristle). Piney will be hitting the states in Spring 2005 for a full US tour, and is currently playing shows around the UK.
