Red Velvet Snow Ball Out August 9th On Kanine Records
“Songs that manage to be happy and haunting all at once” FILTER
"Singh and Laurent have an easy way with large but unexpected arrangements, bouncing from banjo, trumpet, xylophone, and clarinet, sometimes within the same song" UNDER THE RADAR
"Like Grizzly Bear and Mercury Rev taking drugs yet to be invented, the band's music draws on the delicacy of chamber instruments"
LA TIMES
With anticipation for the new LP from Los Angeles-based duo Pepper Rabbit mounting, the pair of Luc Laurent and Xander Singh have unveiled yet another track from the forthcoming Red Velvet Snow Ball. Premiered on Stereogum this morning, “Murder Room” is a lithe, keyboard-led gem, a track Singh calls “the most straightforward pop song I’ve ever written.” “Murder Room” is a centerpiece of Red Velvet Snow Ball, which will be released August 9th, 2011, on Kanine Records. Unlike the duo’s first LP, Red Velvet Snow Ball was recorded in short bursts between legs of Pepper Rabbit’s non-stop touring schedule. In between shows with Passion Pit, Ra Ra Riot,Givers, Freelance Whales and more, Laurent and Singh spent time building on their collaboration in the studio and experimenting with the eleven different instruments that found their way onto the album. Singh guested on this month’s installment of Hype Machine Radio, where it was announced that Red Velvet Snow Ball would make its world premiere Monday, August 1st, exclusively on HypeM.com. In other news, the generous folks over at Noisetrade.com are running a limited-time offer exchanging Pepper Rabbit’s debut LP, Beauregard, for nothing more than an email address. Fans just being introduced to the band through “Rose Mary Stretch” or “Murder Room,” will be pleased to find the band’s 2010 effort well worth the price of an email. |
