Set for US releases on July 26th, Viva Hate will make their first splash on American soil and it's sure to be a large one.

Xasthur "Portal of Sorrow"

Xasthur began in late 1995-early 1996. The band had more than a few unreliable members between ’96 and ’99 until finally becoming a solo project in 1999 through 2010 with all albums and music written and recorded by Malefic/Scott. Through those several years, the band relied very little on guest musicians.

The music and the idea behind it was not quite the same as many standard bands in the black metal genre, it was more so based on mirrors and mirroring the thoughts, fears, nightmares, hatred, disgust, negativity and weaknesses dwelling inside the psyche of human beings and a bleak outlook on life or death from the artist’s point of view.

During the band's history, Xasthur released 8 full-length albums, as well as numerous demos and EP’s and worked with labels such as HYDRA HEAD RECORDS and SOUTHERN LORD. And now it finally ended with the album “Portal of Sorrow” coming on July 23rd, this album features folk singer Marissa Nadler and to say the least is an unconventional ending to the band.

Der Weg Einer Freiheit "Agonie" EP and Self-Titled Debut

With the release of their debut album on May 7th 2010 Der Weg Einer Freiheit (featuring former members of influential German metal heroes FROSTGRIM, and Christian Bass, live-drummer for HEAVEN SHALL BURN) celebrated their stage debut at Friction Fest in Berlin followed by European support-dates with Southern Lord-Heros WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM as well as appearances with THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, AGRYPNIE, NEAERA, BESATT, IMPERIUM DEKADENZ, DESPISED ICON and more.

In March 2011 their second work “Agonie” was recorded together with producer Eike Frees at Hammer Studios Hamburg (NEGATOR, DARK AGE, TODTGELICHTER, GAMMA RAY and many others). Compared to the debut, the 5-track EP is characterized by a more melancholic-obscure atmosphere which appears though the music and lyrics as well as through the artwork (by Broken Press USA). The interlude is an interpretation of Erik Satie’s “Ana”...

Receiving critical praise by press and fans alike, Der Weg Einer Freiheit has quickly become one of Germany’s highest talent, described as an intelligent Black Metal outfit by the likes of Metal Hammer Magazine. The concepts and ideas that underlie the band was formed when, following the disbanding of predecessor band FROSTGRIM, there continued to exist the creative urge to express oneself lyrically and musically through melodic and atmospheric Black Metal. The first edition (200 copies) of the band's self-titled debut was offered through the band’s homepage and was sold out within one month.
