THE CALM BLUE SEA'S DEBUT LP

STREAMING ALL WEEK AT NPR

"The band is bound to make its way into the conversation

The Austin-based (mostly) instrumental band originally self-released their debut in 2008 but went on a nearly 18-month hiatus shortly after. Now, back with more vigor and purpose than ever before, this album -- now remastered and beefed up with two previously unreleased tracks -- signifies the quintet's exciting return to the fertile post-rock landscape. NPR exclaimed: "Sure, moments of placidity dot the Austin band's guitar-driven, largely instrumental epics, but the gentleness exists mostly as a counterpoint to portent, or to crescendos that pummel and swirl. If that description calls to mind the music of Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Mogwai or Explosions in the Sky, fair enough: All four acts are cut from the same quiet-loud-louder-quiet cloth. But fans of those bands should also fall in love with The Calm Blue Sea, and the odds are good that they haven't had a chance to do so quite yet."

The Calm Blue Sea will perform on Austin's NPR station KUT this Thursday night at8 pm on Music With Matt Reiley, heard across the world at KUT.org, and will celebrate the album with a local record release show at The Parish this Friday, July 29. They will hit The Mink in Houston on August 6 and then be back in Austin onAugust 19 for a gig at Emo's.

The album, which is being released on vinyl for the first time, is currently available for pre-order over at Modern Outsider's web store: www.modernoutsider.com/shop
